Console Paint

My 1971 Cutlass black console has scratches and needs to be repainted. What type of paint is recommended?

I have used SEM Landau black for black interiors. Never used it on a console before but it has worked very good for me on other plastic and vinyl pieces.

Looking to do the same on my 71. For paint prep, wondering to remove the silver trim, or just tape it off.

I'm referring to this silver piece here pointed to in yellow.

SEM Landau Bkack.

Take the molding off as long as you are gentle & careful with the tabs. If it’s not cooperating or you’re unsure, tape it.

I painted the lower B pillar covers on my 71 98 and didn't use adhesion promoter. The paint eventually failed.

I disassembled my console down to its base shell but masked the trim in painter's tape to avoid damaging it.

SEM landau black is the best match. You can carefully remove the trim remove the clear coat and polish it with mothers it looks really good.
