console paint

I have the stock auto console for my 65 Cutlass. I was wondering if the black paint I've seen used in the center of the top plate should be flat, semi or gloss?

Also, if I want to freshen up the color of the console base can a body shop use regular car paint?

Thanks,
John

Thanks,

I used SEM Landau Black with their recommended primer and it came out great. The paint is very good for flexible parts like plastic and vinyl. I used in for the 4 speed top plate and the base

I second SEM Landau Black. It's all about the prep. Clean plastic and vinyl with Dawn laundry detergent and warm water first, then a good grease and wax remover, tack cloth, SEM vinyl prep spray, SEM adhesion promoter, primer, one dust coat, and then two wet coats. The process has always turned out great for me. Good luck!
