Question steering wheel removal?

On my 65 Olds want to remove my steering wheel in efforts to fix my turn signals.

The switch broke and the pieces are inside the steering column.

I will try to get pictures soon

Do you have your chassis service manual? It should have detailed instructions for removing the horn button/cover w/o damage (wish i had read that part of mine before i tried...)

Otherwise just borrow/rent a steering wheel puller tool from your local autoparts store. Remove the big nut at the hub- install & tighten the puller, and off the wheel will come.

You are right. I took everything off the cap and bolt and I need a puller to get the wheel off.
I assume most old cars like this have that type of locking mechanism?

The shaft and wheel are splined and it is a tight fit and that is why a puller is needed. I would suggest you purchase a harmonic balancer puller as it works on steering wheels too.... You will have 2 tools in one and they are pretty inexpensive.

Never had to use one yet, leave the nut on a few threads so it doesnt hit you in the face, wiggle it violently side to side up and down and it usualy pulls right off first time

I've never, ever had that method work (tried it many a time!). If it's a plastic steering wheel you can break or crack it using this method.
