edelbrock 1406 how to rebuild/kit questions
Ok since I'm getting my edelbrock 1406 from oldspackrat in a few days I need to know which is the best rebuild kit to buy and should I get the calibration kit from edelbrock (probably not) and is there any kind of special things I should do as rebuilding it needs to be just right

Eddies are exstreamly easy to rebuild just take it apart slowly look at everything as you do it it comes with pretty good instructions and in a clean place I know you have a little brother so make sure he doesn't move stuff around on you lol
Carb cleaner these days aren't as good as they used to be

Bill I know this might be awhile but run new rubber lines from carb to fuel pump and pump back to the gas tank steel lines are proble okay but check them make sure they are not rotted out I would also put a fuel filter in line before the car

Another cheap safe carb cleaner is Pinesol. You dilute it 50/50 and soak the carb pieces in it for a day or two. Makesure to wear rubber gloves as it will dry out your hands if you are in it too long. Wont hurt any rubber or plastic bushing. Finish cleaning the carb with warm water, then use compressor air or spray carb cleaner to dry out the passages. I use this trick on my holley for the 71 and all of my motorcycle carburetors. PLus you have left over cleaner you can use on the floor or any other parts you need to clean. :-)

Is this the one you need?

My question is, what engine are you using this on, and what manifold? This is a square bore carb, and you need the proper adapter and gaskets to use on a spread bore (Quadrajet) manifold.
As for the tuning kit, I would recommend it, as today's gas is much different than the gasoline of old, and may require some fine tuning of jets, metering rods, or springs. I did this swap years ago on a 1988 Dodge Diplomat police 318, to replace a stock Rochester Quadrajet O2 feedback carb, and it took a bit of tweeking to get it right!! It eventually ran very well.....but fuel mileage suffered to the tune of about 5 mpg's!
Full instructions should be available for download on the Edelbrock home site!

You have a diplomat I have a gran fury!!! Lol and I have the adapter as well coming olds packrat set me up good I'm not sure I want to get the biggest kit for my money and I'll replace the float as well just to be on the safe side

Ok I think I'll buy it carb should be here tomorrow boy oh boy ik this isn't the vest aftermarket carb but I've always wanted n Eddie and now I'm getting one. Ive watched videos and these carbs look to have excellent throttle response
#23
I agree about the throttle response, but they are simple to rebuild, and don't leak (LOL), but mileage and throttle response is definitely better from the Qjet and Thermoquad, as they have smaller primaries, which is where you run MOST of the time.....
#24
That is a good price, I think, but I haven't checked around at all.
The Edelbrock is more sensitive to fuel pressure, and float level than most others, so be sure and set the floats PERFECTLY!

If I recall, the Edelbrock has equal size primary and secondary bores, whereas the Qjet and Tquad have small primaries, and larger secondaries.
Fuel economy and throttle response are determined by intake velocity, and smaller bores usually result in higher velocities, therefore better low speed response and better fuel economy; BUT, when you open the secondaries....the whole thing changes! Lol!
This is a simple explanation, not a technical one......no attempt is being made to explain the workings of any carburetors!

Unless the carb is completely worn out, there is NO NEED to remove the throttle blades from the shaft; they are staked in from the factory, and only need to be cleaned thoroughly with solvent. If the throttle shaft or base is worn badly enough, you will need to replace the shaft and drill and install new bushings....but this would be a rare case on a carb that is already a replacement for a worn out original carb...

Yea r body it was another one of my dumb ideas I was cleaning and forgot to realize I don't need to take out these butterflys I'm gonna end up in trouble if I don't slow myself down and think

Okay guys, I am not a carb experts so let's help bill out. I have just the lower base looks like a Eddie base I need to dig it out I was going to use it awhile back but mine ended up being good, so here is the question. it's a reman base so the numbers are no good to compare to the 1406 are the bases the same and just the guts different ??
