Help, I have a '72 Cutlass Supreme, with a 350 (K VIN) I recently purchased an Edelbrock 1406 w/electric choke. Any ideas installing the red wire to an ignition key activated 12V source (other than coil or alternator) as stipulated by Edelbrock?

 

there are all kinds of switched "hot" wires under the hood. i would get a fluke and test some wires that are near the carb. make sure to test them with the car on and off to make sure it is hot only when the car ignition is on. I have an edelbrock on my 72 but it is manual choke so i just took mine off. it starts hard when its cold, but runs like a champ once warmed up.

The best way to do this is to route the +12V wire through an oil pressure switch first so that the choke is only active if the engine is actually running. I use this one:

The outer two terminals are the ones to use for the choke. If you have an OIL idiot light, the center terminal will operate the light.

Hey BlueV. No relation to the late 50's western with the Stallion, however, more of a fan of the '58 Plymouth Fury as depicted in "Christine".

I too am having a small problem with the red wire. Edelbrock's video tech says to tap into the fuse box under the dash. My problem is I do not have the wire that was supposed to come with the 1406 Carb electric choke. I'm trying to get one, but what's a good DIY solution? Joe I know your loving all my posts lately

I just ran a wire and stabbed a post in my fuse box to come on when the key was on. You can also tap into the wiper motor hot lead. Under no circumstances use the hot off the ignition coil.

I picked up 12 gauge wire and a 30 amp wire-through fuse. Gunna pick up and oil switch ps-64 and go with that method. The switch is a direct replacement to the original on the 67 330?

 

Off topic, but what intake manifold are you matching up the 1406 carb with? The OEM one?
