Ignition, Light, wiper switch removal tool BT-6817

On my 1968 Olds 98, the chassis manual, states that to remove the ignition switch, the light switch and the wiper switch you need the escutcheon removal tool BT-6817. Are these tools available now? If you don't have them, what is the alternative?

You may be able to find an aftermarket version of these at a well-stocked parts store. Probably under the Lisle, K-D or Danaher tool brands.

Or you can search for original B-T online. They're out there since most dealers would have had them in the toolroom and some mechanics would have had their own.

If you have access to a tool truck, the jobber may have them but you'll pay for them.

Past that, needle-nose pliers with angled tips work in a pinch (pun intended). Put a layer or two of masking tape around the switch so you won't damage the dash trim if the pliers slip.

Personally I tap lightly with a padded punch and hammer.
