Arrow 55 YR WAIT FOR THE CAR OF MY DREAMS

Hi! My name is Bill. In the fall of 1953, the 1954's came out [today they come out about a year early]. Anyway, I got my first look at a car I would own 55 years later. Back then, I was months from age 16 and a 'junior' license. This car was (and is) a 1954 Olds Holiday 98 2dr hdtp. I am now 69 yrs old and have had this car since last November.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the "new toy" I'm not familiar with that vintage but am sure there are several guys here who are. When you have time tell us more about your car, and even post a picture for us to see! John

Welcome

Welcome aboard

I'm glad your patience paid off and I'm glad we got another member who is old enough to remember when the word "party" was a noun.

Congrats on your car. Over the past 7 years I have overseen the restoration of a 54 Super 88 convertible. He had one new and always wanted another. I have attached a couple photos that I hope come through. He also has a 50 convertible. The 54 is a really nice Oldsmobile. You will really enjoy it. Certainly you have waited long enough. There are a lot of neat folks here.

I just read my post and meant to say a friend of mine had one new. He is now 79 years old and had looked for another one for 20-25 years. He is the third owner and has the original invoice. The car is well documented. I am anxious to see pictures of your car. I have included a couple more.

Beautiful car. Did it come with seat belts? For some strange reason, I can't shake the thought that seat belts weren't common on cars back then. Maybe you can clear this one up?

Here's a pic I took of a restored 57 and it doesn't have seat belts.

No it did not come with seat belts. The ones in the car are aftermarket and were in the car when we got it. We had the interior completely redone and put the seat belts back in. It could use some newer belts. I am not sure when seat belts were first offered. I know they were available as and option in the early sixties. I am sure somebody on here knows when they first became available. Good question.
