442 but not. Found Fisher Body tag

Hi all,
So I am writing this in total dismay. Flew to Ohio a month ago, bought a "numbers matching 442" or so I thought. Seller couldn't find Fisher body tag and neither could i. I did verify the engine and tranny vin derivatives and matched them to Vin. today I found the Body identification tag. I had to peel it off to get to the back of it to read the stamp as it had been gooped over with I don't know what. anyway it reads ST 68-33667 LAN 40777777728 947 Y-1 my POP reads 947-y1 344678m404574 OR855665 sc 6 og16976 03200 from this site http://www.tpocr.com/oldsbp8.html I get that 68-33667 is a 68 Cutlass Convertible S. WTH... am i reading this right ? The colors agree with my pop. the mfg site agrees with my pop but the Style is not agreeing. help ?

Sorry, but I have read quite a few items referring to well documented sources that the 1968 Olds 442 had cutlass cowl tags. phew. I am hoping this is a safe assumption.. freak out over.

68 and 69 442 shared the body designator on the Fisher body tag with Cutlass (in your case, 33667), even though the 442 was a separate model. As stated, a 344678Mxxxxxx VIN is a 68 442 convertible from Lansing. They changed that to reflect the 442 designator on the body tag for 1970 and 71.

Sounds like you're good.

This comes up a LOT. Again, the use of Cutlass cowl tags on 1968-69 442s is completely documented in factory literature. The CSM, the Fisher Body Manual, the parts book, and the Product Information Manual all talk about this. My 68 W-30, 69 H/O and 69 442 all have 33687 cowl tags. This is a non-issue.
