You need a vin tag to know anything.

68/69 442 have Cutlass body tags it's known and been discussed in the past. As long as the vin is 344 you know it's a real 442.

It's a 442. The cowl tag showing Cutlass is a common issue as noted above. But it's a 442.

Thank you very much everyone for the speedy replies.

This confirmed what I suspected, the car definitely has had a
color change however in a dimly lit barn it was very hard to tell. Whoever did
the paint job was very good at concealing the original color and the lack of
any apparent "orange peel" made it very difficult to tell that it was not in fact the original color.

75 was code for Matador red in 1970. Maybe called Fire red on other brands, but as noted above in 1969 it was Aztec gold.

Oh, ok, now I understand. Your original statement was a little vague; I thought you were determining 442 or Cutlass. My bad.

I understood your request very clearly, you asked for help in deciphering the above tag. Pretty simple request, glad you received what you needed.

You should start your own thread instead of adding to an old one. But, yes, if you post a clear photo of the cowl tag (always much better than copying it by hand), it can likely be decoded.
