Question Newbie Here Needing Advice

Hello, I just thought I would introduce myself, you can call me mellow yellow, I have been into cars since I can remember and my first Car was a 1991 RS Camaro that I have had since I was 15, I am 22 now and I still drive it daily Anywho I recently came across a 1972 Olds Cutlass 2 Door Hardtop, It is in fairly good shape, however the Transmission was stolen out of it, it has bucket seats, center console, numbers matching 350 rocket, I did some vin research so it's not a 442 or anything like that, it does have a little rust in the usual places like bottom quarters, trunk and floor pans. I am supposed to go and pick the car up on 03/04/10 it has a clear and clean title. The guy said he would take 750.00 flat for it, but I was wondering if this is a fair price for it, everything is there except for the Transmission. Any input would be great I am new to the oldsmobiles and will be back post new thread and asking more questions Thanks everyone!

Hey, welcome to the forum.

I'm not the right person to answer your question on fair price, but I will say consoles, engines, bumpers, miscellaneous interior and body components have value as individual parts. All depends on their condition. It might take some big bucks to buy a transmission and repair all the sheet metal. But, to reiterate, far more knowledgeable people than I will be glad to offer their experiences and opinion.

Yes buy it, the parts alone are worth more than that

Question I think I will buy it!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement, I will be going to pick it up next month and I am sure we will have more than enough questions for ya. Yeah okay here is one, how many of the base cutlass' were made in 72? and here is a pretty neat little fact on my car, it was the 666 car off the line. I thought that was kinda crazy! Thanks EVERY ONE I already love this Forum!

Don't buy it then. You would be asking for trouble.

I'm sorry, but this one had me bursting out laughing. How on earth does one steal a transmission? It's not like it's a 5-minute, unscrew-a-couple-of-screws type job. Why not just take the whole car? It would be easier. Stealing a transmission is like stealing the fireplace out of someone's house. I just can't picture it. Are you sure nothing else was stolen, like maybe the chassis?

Well, that does make a big difference. If the tranny was already out of the car and just sitting in a corner, I could see it getting carried off by a couple of ne'er-do-wells.

Grab a transmission and 'get with the program"!! You're into the Old's disease , and you better just get on board with the other fanatics here and put together a great ride that will have you wondering why you EVER thought a Camaro could be your mistress!! This site has folk that can answer each and every Olds question you could ever ask...so ask away. Derek 69 442 post cpe.

U could drop an olds tranny in an hour ...

It goes quick when you have a torch and cut lines and cables ...

Maybe a half hour ...

A fork lift is always nice ...

Talking Welcome to CO

People steal cash machines with chains tied to the bumper of a truck. They will steal anything.

Sounds like a fair deal to me
