Needing advice on rust issue..

We took out the front bumper and found a good size rust hole. Can I find this same body part or will I need to fab something? Its right under the battery tray.

If that was my car, I would replace it.

If what I'm seeing is the core support, sure is.

Check craigslist, for sure. A good used support is desirable over a repro and should be cheaper, too!

Good luck.

I would base the decision on the condition of the rest of the part. If all else is in nice condition, I would repair what you have. But I would also give thought to removing the radiator support from the car so it can be refinished. You could sand it down and paint it or have it sandblasted. Make the repair or have a good body shop do it for you. Something tells me there are repair panels available for A body supports but I am not completely sure. When the repair is complete, I would spray it with an epoxy primer and a good paint that will be resistant batttery acid or have it powder coated which will be very durable. Also would be a good idea to wash the battery tray with water/baking soda once a year to clean it off and to neutralize any acid. You might want to try to find a good support that is damaged on the pass side and use the driver's side for a patch panel for yours. Call a few classic car salvage yards to see what you can find. TX should have decent parts in these yards but AZ and CA will also be good places to look. Or, post something on CO. Good luck.

It would be difficult to make a decent repair without removing your core support, a good used replacement would be cheaper than fixing yours.

They dont make repro's for cutlass core supports i belive. Your best be is a salvage yard. When i crashed mine i bought one for 75 bucks in great condidiont little to no scale rust i know that yard still has 3 cutlasses . If you cant find anything maybe i can be of help. here is what it looked like after i cleaned it at my dad's shop.

Directly under the battery, right? There USED to be a patch panel for this, but I haven't been able to find any vendors selling it anymore. I still have one that I bought years ago.

I see OPGI offers them for the Buick Skylark cars but nothing for Cutlass models. Looks like a lot of money for what is here.
