new guy to olds.
well i have owned many a gm classic car and a couple super gas cars now im enjoying the finer things in life like harleys and i guess an oldsmobile tuna boat in the form of a 1972 delta royale conv 455 4bl ac car. i am the second owner of the car as it was in a barn unstarted since 97 and only saw a few car shows in the 80s the vehice has only 43k on it red with white int, and top. i must saw when i first looked at it i was uniterested but after a second time and looking closer at how flawless this car is and how eveything is there in near mint cond i fell in love. so i bought it from a guy that sold my father inlaw a house recentley. now im having it towed back to dallas from a small ok town and am going to clean eveything thing up drain all fluids and perf a major tune with new battery. i cant wait to drive this car the wife even joked about putting her sun hat on with big sunglasses and scarf and taking it on a long road trip to vegas... fear and loathing anyone? also does anyone know the production numbers on a car like this or where to find them? im looking for the numb ers of cars produced in 72 that are conv. with the 455. thanks and looking forward to learning some cool stuff reading through some of these posts..
Congrats on the great find, especially with that low mileage. Please post photos as soon as you can. There are a number of '71-'76 Olds full-size convertible owners on here. I had a '75 Delta 88 convertible myself back in the 1990s and sold it in 2001.
As far as production of your car, a total of 3,900 Delta 88 Royale convertibles were made in 1972.
Delta 88 convertible production for other years from that era:
1971: 2,883
1973: 7,088
1974: 3,716
1975: 7,181
My source doesn't break down production by engine type. For 1972, engine choices were 160 and 180 hp versions of the 350 and the 225 hp 455 that you have.

Anyone with a 1971-1975 olds 88 2dr cov. out there that would not mind measuring the cars wheelbase and overall length? i would really appreciate it as im trying to make sure i have a trailer that will do the job and the space to store the car once i get her home.
This info is in "Setting the Pace." The wheelbases were the same all five years at 124 inches. Lengths varied as shown below.
1971: 220.2 inches
1972: 222.5
1973: 226.3
1974: 226.9
1975: 226.9
A half-foot jump in length from '71 to '72 to '73, then pretty much constant. Just to finish the thought, the '76's had the same wheelbase but were actually shortened slightly to 226.7 inches.

heres some other pics after i hooked up battery, tuned her up and performed a carb rebuild. i was amazed at how fast and easy she started and ran... it just purred like a kitten. no leaks anywhere on this car. odometer shows 40k but it ran like it only had 10k. brakes this weekend while wife is cleaning the inside. then we should be able to give it a test spin.. windows and top all worked perfect as soon as i hit the switches.
