Hello everyone. I'm nineteen years old and I recently bought my first car. It's a 1955 Oldsmobile 98. I know very little about cars, so I thought I'd join up here and maybe learn a little.

Hello, my name is Frank and I have always loved Oldsmobiles. (grampa had 'em) I have several Oldsmobiles, some run, none are considerd finished. Here goes- 49 Futuramic 88, doesn't run- cracked block. 75 Cottner Bevington ambulance with a 455, hope to make it into a Harley hauler- runs good needs work. 64 Jetstar 88 with a Rocket 350, runs. 77 Toronado XS runs, drives OK but has some genuine Minnesota rust and several other issues to deal with before me and the wife go to Dearborn for the nat. meet. I'm 55 years old, and have worked for the railroad for 31 years in track maintenance. Hope to learn more. Thank you.
I started in the 70's with a '67 442 Cutlass 30+years laterI just bought a 93 Cutlass Supreme convertible and need
some help.
1)How do I tell if it's a 3.1 or 3.4 liter?
2)The roof was replaced twice by previous owners - and looking at it - it has pulled away from the back end of the car - it looks like it was stapled? How is it suppose to attach to the boot?

3)Lastly, weatherstripping - what would you suggest for replacing
it? ALL of it!

Thanks for any help...
Pat
My name is Kurt, I am newbie to working on olds... had a 69 chevy 1/2 ton P/U longbed lowered, did a ton of work on it won super chev in '92 in my category... since then I have done nothing so here I am starting fresh on a car that was willed to me by my wifes grandfather. It had Just under 12000 miles on it, and has been the daily driver family car since I have owned it in 2000. It now has 78,000 miles on it and I am glad to finally find an ACTIVE oldsmobile website where I can get some info and share in the trials and tribulations with working on these old(S) classics.
Clean looking car neg!
Frank, you have quite a few project then, that Harley Hauler sounds like an interesting one, would it be converted to an open "bed" then?
Kurt, what kind of Olds? I can't see where you told us.
Welcome to you all, glad to have new members.

In response to Oldsguy, the rear door of my amb. is taller than a chevy van rear door, so if I take the windshield off the harley, and try to duck down or put in a winch, I might get it in there. I like to ride my full bagger, but thought it would be cool to see if I could stuff it in there. Thanks for the welcome! Frank
Hi there--I'm Patton Glade from Austin, TX. Found this site via a link and it looks fairly active. See some familiar names also. Look forward to following the activity and hopefully some postings.
Thanks very much.
Thanks very much.
I'm Dave Scalise & it seems I signed up in 2007, though forgot I had. I have been lurking and reading the Posts here for a long time. I live in Arizona because of the rust free cars that can still be found by the dozens. I'm from New England & moved to Southern California in '99 to get to get warm & get away from the salty roads that ate my cars alive. Moved to the Arizona desert in 2003. Currently Olds I have:
66 Toronado with 77K original miles. I bought it from the original owner's widow 2 years ago. One repaint 10 years ago - RED.
68 Cutlass S Convertible 4-speed. I have only had this car 6 months. The 4-speed makes it pretty rare - Does anyone have a source of production #'s?
69 Dodge Charger 451 Stroker motor 4-speed. Hell of a ride. - Ya I know, wrong Forum.

Gday,
My Name is Brett, i live in Australia i am married and have a son (Kody 8 months old).I am a mechanic who works at a Ford dealership doing transmission diff and steering repairs(we do mechanical repair work for other ford dealers).
Anyway thats the boring bits out of the way
I have just fallen in love with my first oldsmobile
http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/...4SAYJDD215B05L
went to look at it as i havent ever seen a oldsmobile of this shape(friend of my family has a custom 54 olds i was keen on but on closer inspection the rust underneath was too much to deal with).
Didnt really have any intention of buying it but when dad, my brother and i saw it in the flesh i had to do a quick rethink. So i went home and discussed it with the minister for war(my boss at home). After some quick discussions i decided it was going to be mine.So now im the proud owner of a oldsmobile
Unfortunately we dont have alot a places to get spare parts for these here in Oz.
luckily i have a friend who is coming over to your side of the world to live for a few months who has a relative that imports American cars into Australia, so i can get stuff sent to his house and get them put into a shipping container bound for my side of the world.
im keen to know more about my car as well
so if anyone can tell me more info about it from the link ive posted that would be great
im really after what the engine size is and what year it is
Thanks for reading this
Brett
ps
i have downloaded a catalogue from Fusick auto is there anyone else who is as good to get oldsmobile stuff from at all for my 59

You bet Dave. Your avatar was just too large (max of 140x120 pixels), and in your sig, to get the picture to display you sometimes have to put the vBB code {SIGPIC}{/SIGPIC} (replace curly braces { and } with square brackets [ and ] ) somewhere in your sig block.
New guy, introducing myself.
Hello my name is Steve Mosley. I am 46 years young, I have been in the Army National Guard off and on since 1983, on right now. I have worked at my family owned bodyshop (in Mississippi) since opening in 1979. I have restored a 1969 convertible RS/SS Camaro, sold it and now am the proud new owner of an original 1969 Oldsmobile 4-4-2. When I bought this car I did not look at it real close, I saw that it was in pretty good condition, it had a coat of primer on it, the interior was all original, black buckets with a console and automatic, but overall was not in bad shape. I got it home and started to check it out a little closeer, I looked in the glove compartment and lo-and-behold, the original paperwork pouch with P-O-P, warrenty info. ect. ect. ect. was in it. I took all kinds of pictures (which I will post later) and took out the rear seat, thats when I found........ The 1st build sheet...... shredded by the mice that made it into a nice little bungalo for them to live in
. So I pulled the carpet and lo-and-behold...... I found the second build sheet in excellent condition
. Anyway I am in the slow process of restoreing this wonderful auto to near new condition. I am sure I will need alot of advice from you guys and whether you know it or not, I have already received some very useful info from your post. Thank you and, T.T.F.N.

Hi I'm Kerrry Johnson I live in Utah and came across a 1968 442 Post car that's been mostly restored. It has a bench seat and a 4 speed trans, it looks like it's only options are power steering and a vinyl top. I would like to finish the resoration but don't know much about these cars other than they seem well made. It has a new Edelbrock carb, so I need to find a correct carb and it also needs a radio and windshield wiper switch as well as some new brake lines.

Kerry, welcome! Your car is the kind I like, low optioned cars except for the go-fast goodies. Brakes aren't a problem, you can get what you need locally, carb isn't either, there are a few people here that can help you out, and the wiper switch should be attainable as well, list in the parts needed forum. Good luck.
Glen here. I thought I joined this forum years ago but either forgot my i.d., password or both! I am a certifiable Olds nut from way back. I've been a member of OCA for 30 years and am a founding member of the NEOC, the New England chapter of OCA, and long time member of GMO, the Eastern Ma. chapter of OCA. I currently own an older restored 1968 Cutlass Ram-Rod 350, a restified 1969 Cutlass Supreme W-31 wannabe and original owner of a 1998 Intrigue. The 68 was a feature car in Hemmings Muscle Machines last year.
I plan on spending more time with this impressive Olds forum in the future. Besides, we (NEOC) will be hosting the OCA nationals in 2010 here in New England and this will be a great place to update all the Olds lovers out there.

Thanks Dan, I will do that. I'm still trying to get to know how this forum works. Not sure if I'm posting this as a response to your post or not.

The first car I remember my folks having was a 68 Cutlass Supreme coupe, bright orange. What a great car. I just bought a 1972 Nordic Blue/White 442 Convertable with the #'s matching 455, Hurst dual gate, Rally Inst pack, and a fiberglass wing. My 455 has a pair of 1965 "A" heads and a 1965 "B" manifold, and an aftermarket Edelbrock 4 bbl. Not sure why those were added in stead of the originals.
The car has been surface restored once, the engine rebuilt, but needs some love and care and tweaks to make it a better. That'll be my hobby for a few years.

My name is Mark. I live in IN and just bought a'63 Super 88 2-dr coupe. I am learning about the car and have some questions about a couple of issues with the car.. It is blowing oil out of the breather cap at the front of the engine. The breather cap rises straight up. Other pics of the 394 engine I have seen show the breather cap rising up at an angle-does anyone know what gives with this.. Mark
Hi all. My name is Danny. I'm 36 years old, married, 2 kids live in southeast Michigan, etc. etc. etc. I've owned 3 Oldsmobiles ('84 Delta 88, '92 Ninety Eight Regency, '93 Cutlass Supreme 'vert). I started my Olds passion as a kid. My Dad had a '70 442 (my Mom wrecked it when they got married) and he used to tell me all kinds of stories about racing on Woodward and Telegraph. I hve always loved Olds' and I wish I would have kept teh 3 I had. Anyway, I am back in teh market for another '80-'84 88. I joined up to see if there was anything in teh "for sale" section that fit what I wanted and figured I would start here first. Not sure what it is about the '84 88 I had, but I loved that car and regret that I ever sold it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! ;-P
Oh yeah, I forgot, my current rides are an '07 Impala (for teh wife and kiddies) and an '07 Dodge Dakota (because I'm a closet Mopar fan, but we'll forget I mentioned that).
Danny

Glen, it sounds like your activity in the local Olds Clubs is quite a contribution to our hobby and will help out our board as well as the local New England people, welcome. Kerry, your reply worked great! Scotty your '68 sounds like a real muscle car, I always liked the Nordic Blue, very nice, clean color. Mark, I think the breather cap may be different but I can't verify that, if you want to get some more exposure on that issue go ahead and post it as a seperate post in the 88 forum, I bet we have s few members that could help out. Danny, nice to have you here and hope you find the car you are searching for, have you looked at the local Craig's List as well?
Hi Everyone, im Lue... I live in los angeles, 29, and i love cars. I currently own a 78 Malibu, but would like to get another car. Hi folks, my name is Carl. I joined Classicoldsmobile a few months ago. I am 60 years old. I have retired twice, but can't seem to stay retired. I now manage a waste oil furnace and boiler company in the Northeast. My wife of 39 yrs) and I have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren. I have a 67 442 with a 69 455 engine. I have received help on a couple of problems I have had from this web site. I really enjoy this site. My wife is a professional photographer and has take a number of pictures of our 442. I'll try and post a few.
I've been on here for a while now, but I believe I failed to introduce myself.
I'm jason. I live in loganville, ga & own/operate a body shop in Lilburn, ga.
About 30 minutes northeast of Atlanta. I've been fixing up old cars since I was about 12 when I started with my dad. Once got out on my own & developed the means, I began to work on cars for myself. I just recently finished restoring a 61 GMC Suburban & began to look for a Cutlass. The 68 - 70 body style always attracted me, but I just never had the money to take on yet another project. About a year ago, a 66 Delta 88 just sort of fell into my lap. After researching & working on the olds, I'm sold. My plan is now to sell the 61 Suburban, finish the 66 Delta 88 and then get that Cutlass which has had my attention for so many years. Thanks to the helpful, knowledgeable people on this site I feel I can move forward using the experience & knowledge I've acquired on the 88 & use it to build one awesome cutlass. Looking forward to the years to come on classicoldsmobile.com. Thanks!
Also, since taking on these projects, I'm actually considering shifting my business from collision & refinishing to strictly muscle car restorations.
I'm currently doing a 66 Galaxie 500 for a friend & I've not found ANYTHING for Ford info that can hold a candle to ClassicOldsmobile.com. You guys are dedicated. Thanks again!

Hi my name is George and I live in South Carolina but I'm originally from N.Y. I am an oldsmobile guy at heart ever since my mother gave me a 1971 cutlass supreme when I got my drivers license 23 years ago. I spent almost a year to get my 71 on the road, putting a 455 in it with th400 and gallons of bondo on all the north east rot, I had the car on the road and 3 months later it went up in a ball of flames on a summer friday night in front of a roller rink on the local cruising strip, a year or so later I picked up a 1972 cutlass S for $750 running and in decent shape (remember those days $750) I had a friend that did body work and in a short period of time it was diamond dust black laquor with a yellow underbelly and a mild 403 under the hood with show chrome oem brackets and pulleys. I joint the navy and draged the car with me and after a year had to rebuild the 403 again (spun rod bearing). Realizing it was not real practical to keep, I drove it home to N.Y. on leave bought a 85 honda civic off my mom and had my brother sell my oldsmobile (what a mistake hind site being 20/20) in 1990. Well 18 years later I am awaiting the delivery of a 1965 f85 2 door hardtop (?non post) bucket seats center console running 330 cid in fairly decent shape oldsmobile. And in the waiting anticipation of its arrival have recieved several restoration parts cataloges and in the end found with delight this web site and realized that oldsmobile may be gone but not forgotten or dead.
P.S. I still have the 455 and the original 350 from my 71 in pieces but complete, greased and wrapped in plastic all these years and moved them with me to S.C. 2 years ago now with plans for a new life. I am also a big fan of the work of Joe Mondello & Dick Miller. I look forward to any help from the membership on aquiring parts and advice in the future.

Most of you guys know me as 380 Racer on ROP or 350 Racer on OP. Glad to find another Olds site. My 70 Supreme is the first Oldsmobile I ever owned. Saved it from a slow death in a grove of trees. Paid $75 for it back in 1981. It has changed slowly over the years, but will never get rid of it. You will see me put a plug in for a race in Byron, Illinois Sept. 6-7. Olds powered of course.
Hey Frank, where are you in north central Iowa? I'm in that area too. Have our paths crossed?
Nick
