Hi all,
My name is Richard, I caught the Olds bug almost 2 years ago when I stumbled across a 1970 442 W30 convertible in the garage of a carpenter who was doing work for my brother. With the help of a couple of local shops I've been doing a frame off restoration ever since. Maybe next year will be the end of the project. Good to meet you all, thanks for the good information you put on this site.

70' 442 pics
Thanks for the hearty welcome,
Here are a few pics of when I first brought the "money pit" (as my wife calls it) home. The previous owner had the wheels painted body color instead of the correct Argent (silver/gray?).
Richard.

I have never built an Olds either. I have used Watts Shop in Lavon, Max Long in Irving, and Rick @ Metroplex Machine in Balch Spings on other brands of motors.
Hello
My first car was a 65 Olds Cutlass my dad bought me for my 18th birthday - that I gave away. Dad owned two different 442's while I was growing up. The first was totalled by a bigger Buick, the second went to my brother. I've had the Oldsmobile bug for about 30 years. I frequent all the car shows in our area and haven't seen any Olds older than a 70.
With the gracious help of my loving husband, I just purchased a 65 442 (in pieces). It was close and the price was right. The lady I bought it from didn't have any information, just pictures, as she had just inherited it from her father's estate.
I am a little bummed right now. We picked up the car last night and according to the block casting number it now has a 455 from a 71-72
. I am going to need lots of help rebuilding it. How do I decode the build sheet - I don't know what the symbols mean.
Thanks!!!

Welcome to our newest members. Wow! can you say purple? Richard, are you planning on re-painting the wheels then?
MyWildest, no frets on the 455 unless you intended on an original restoration. You could either re-build the 455 and use it in the car, or sell it here and get a fair price to go towards an original engine. Congrats!

Pat, glad to hear about your new acquisition! Now I am not the only big-fender car owner
.
Jerry, Glad to have you here. I am familiar with you from ROP, and happy you decided to join us here. For some reason I had an image of you being slightly older and more crotchety (like me
).

I had a 64 Cutlass in Texas that I had to give up due to Army Levy in 80. I missed this 3 or 4 on the floor and seemed to be posi rearend. I wanted to get the Black Buty at Valenti Classics but I guess it got sold. I saw a real eye turner 61 Ninety Eight. Maybe someday I will get hooked up with a Cutlass like the one I lost in 1980. I left it with my buddy Salvador Dana back then. He rebuilt the engine and took it back with him to California I guess. Anyway I live here in Ewa Beach, Hawaii and as soon as I finish renovating this house I can clear the garage so I can play with my toy. I work full time now for the Army Department Public Works as a Plumber. Hopefully soon I can make thing happen here. Thank You.

Hello, My Name is Ted, 56 year old working slob with two kids in college. I finally have some time to develop my life long dream of having a collection of classic cars. I started with a 49 Hudson Commodore sedan in 1982. I still have it but have never done anything with it except keep it inside out of the weather. In the mean time I owned ’47 Chevy coupe with I worked on for two years going through many adult night body class at the vo-tech, eventually I lost interest when I saw an identical car already in shape going for less money than my original investment, plus all I had then was a car port. I’ve also shared ownership in a few other cars that my friend and I would fix up as much as our wallets would allow and, after getting some enjoyment out them, sell them off to others to continue to work on. This year I purchased a ’51 Pontiac coupe and a car I’ve always wanted to get , a ’57 Supper 88 sedan. Both cars have the same problem: the entire floor needs replacing. Thank God for Fusick and other suppliers for their reproduction parts. I’m working two extra part time jobs to feed my old car habit. I’ve only just joined the Olds club but hope to end with a good looking car regardless of how long it takes. I just hope we’ll still be allowed to drive them. There is so much political animosity against old cars.
I can't get a picture on.It says it is to large.

Welcome aboard Ted,
I'm sure you'll find this site most helpful and friendly with folks suffering the same addicitons.
We ole pharts have to stick together.
Speaking for me alone [not the board] I don't give much thought to being PC.
I love the guys at Fusick, I try to call them when they first open and ask, "Am I too late to be the first stupid question of the day?"
And they always say the same thing, "Sorry, You missed the first stupid question of the day contest again!"

robellog, you will like our site. My son works with the Army as well, seems to be treating him fine so far. I had a good friend when I was in the Navy in Okinawa, he was a Marin Staff Sargent. Anyway, he was from Hawaii and I remember he said, "we have no seasons".
Ted, I can empathize with you, I am still paying for student loans. Now we have another "fat fender" person. I guess your '57 doesn't really fit that bill but you do own the other car. Who knows, you may have a Fat Fendered Olds some day too!
Welcome to both of you.

Hi,
my name is Mark, I am 38 and live in the Missouri. I recently purchased a 69 delta 88 convertible. I have had several old pickups but never a classic car. This sight has been a great resource to me especially "OLDS GUY". I have three girls, a wife and a female Wheaten Terrior. My 69, 88 is the only one that hasn't made me mad as hell, yet. I have listed my photos in the gallery section due to technical difficulties.

Tim from Lodi Ca. area. My first 2 cars were a 70 Delta and a 66 Dynamic , both 4 drs. Had a 55 Chevy that I traded for a 61 Starfire, sold the Starfire to get into Mopars, just finished a 69 Roadrunner. Just bought this 61 Olds 2 dr Sedan, trying to figure out it's history, had holes for dual spotlights and an antenna on the back. Also has holes in the front bumpers for lights and a Heavy Duty bench seat. Plans are to get it back on the road and maybe a 455/400 later. Currently has a low comp. 2 bl 394 with 3:08 posi. Looking for tag decoder.
NAS, I recognise those three letters in that configuration and I bet you are or were in the Navy, right? Welcome to our site. I recommend keeping and building that 394, nice strong engines and they really have that old school image. I do realize that go-fast parts are harder to come by though. If you do decide to do an engine/transmission swap there are people here that have done that and can help you out.
Yeah, Back in the 60's we used to see the "Pest Control Guys" ride up in these to the dorm looking for "Mary Jane".
The blackwalls are a dead give away to a Narc no matter what the unifrom. Pest control

my cracker A$$
NAS cool car welcome to the site. Very unique.
Personally, I check for Jimmy Hoffa DNA

Hey Ron, Welcome.
I'm in the Cleveland area too, Bainbridge Twp. on the east side. I would say you're pretty hardcore already with three parts cars. The most knowledgable Olds guys around are on here IMO so post away and drain their brains, I'm with Jamesbo and exclude myself.

Hello, My name is Neil but I g by The Stickman where ever I go. Being 6'4" and 180lbs you might understand why the name was given to me. Actually I was 160lbs when The name was given to me. I am married and my wife goes by Twig. Funny enough her name was given to her by a completely different person. I am presently disabled due to Migraines and would give anything to be cured and be able to work again. My wife is a welded and has been a mechanic. So that comes in pretty handy. it also hels that she can cook and still looks good after 20 years of marriage. We own 2 Oldsmobiles. Mine is a 1984 350 Rocket 88 Custom Cruiser. It is Matt black with red 15X8 Wheel Vintiques with baby moons and dark tinted windows. It has a newly installed(and still teething)1972 350 backed by a 200R4 trans. This car will be seeing many changes over the winter providing my migraines don't keep me from it, which I am sure they will. My wife's car is a 1979 Cutlass Cruiser that has been made into a 2 door delivery with a choptop. As much as i would love to take credit for the body work I can't. We pretty much bought it teh way it is. But we have been fixing alot of problems from the previous owner. And will have to tackle the body and other things over the winter. the car looks good but is far from perfect. It needs a total interior. We also want to take the SBC out and do a DX block build up. I gotta find one first though. He car has a 350 chevy and TH 350 trans. We just bought a Hurst pistol grip 1/4 stick shifter for it. We are from eastern Pa and would love to know if there is anyone close to the Lehigh Valley. If you have any questions just ask.

Stickman,
Welcome to our site. I really like Battlecruiser a lot. Good color and wheel treatment especially for a newer vehicle, that is kind of the "old skool" hot rod look. I have gotten tired of it on pre fifties cars like mine but it looks good on yours. The Cutlass Cruiser has some great looking body work done on it, I like how the rear bumper fits up to the fenders without sticking out 9 inches. The color scheme reminds me of the pastels used on the street rods in the 80s. Now all you need is a really big C body wagon to finish up a trio.

Hi all you Olds fanatics out there. My name is Bruce and I go by bigoldscruiser for obvious reasons. I know most of you are into Cutlass/442 types but are tolerant of us who love the big cars. I have had 98's since 1968 and currently own a convertible and a Holiday Sedan. Now that the cars are in bed for the winter, I will be visiting this site frequently and trying to contribute something useful whenever I can. I am the full-size car advisor for 1965-66 for the OCA. My Holiday Sedan has the original 425 but I have added fuel injection and an AOD trans.
