Introductions
Hi all. I thought I should introduce myself now that I have registered. My name is Eric, and I have been reading posts for a few weeks. I live and work in Chicago. I got my first Olds when I was 15 (a junked 69 442 convertible with a 69 H/O front end on it) that I spent 6 years restomodding into a usable driver at the time. I also had a 75 Cutlass Salon around the same time, both of which were eventually sold to stay in school. More recently, I had a red, white, and white 94 Cutlass Supreme convertible with the DOHC 3.4 that I bought new and passed down to my father 2 years ago when I bought my 06 Solstice (I know, not an Olds, but "in the family" at least). This spring, I was fianlly able to buy a 69 H/O, which is currently undergoing a body-on restoration. I intend to drive it when it is done! (Actually, I don't have a choice--I don't have a truck or trailer or a place to store them, anyway.)
I'm Mark and I have a 1976 Olds 98 w/68,000 miles. I am 37 and have always loved 70's cars, particularly the big Oldsmobiles. My grandparents owned Cutlasses all through that decade, but i distinctly remember some of their neighbors with 98s and 88s and how much i liked them. I think cars from the '70s are kind of the forgotten classics, and the big luxury models are some of the most elegant looking cars ever built. I am glad to see that there are others who appreciate them the way I do! I am an amateur when it comes to car repair and it's great to finally have a car i can actually do some things with. So any advice on the best way to keep my cruiser in top mechanical and cosmetic condition is greatly appreciated.

Charles, I hope you find a car to put the engine in too. Sounds like you have a good power plant. You may have to change a few items like transmission and exhausts but otherwise you should be in-like-flint.
Al, glad to have you here as well. '69 was a good year for Oldsmobile all around. I like all the models of that year. Good luck in your restoration.

Hi new guy in Cheyenne Wyomin
Hi I am a 48 y/o male in Cheyenne Wy. I found this site while surfing for parts for a friend. I own a 1974 Olds Delta 88 Royal convertable with 88,000.00 + miles on it withmatching numbers. I found it for only $2000.00. I have owened a couple of olds thru the years. this is my first convertable. I am a Five year cancer survivor and had always wanted a convertable, and decided I had better not put it off any longer so this is what I bought. I will try to add a picture of it later. Thanks for having this site.
Hey everybody!
New to the forum and thought I'd say hello! It's nice to see a community dedicated to the Olds like all you all are.
I have a four door 65 98 I traded my brother a bicycle and a pickup for. Lots of backstory on the car I won't bore all you all with, but I'm just happy to have found a place I can ask dumb questions about the Olds at! Yeah, you might've guessed I have no mechanical, body or any other sort of useful skilz. :P hoping to learn though.

Welcome to our site guys.
Rob, I am sure once you post pictures of your car and start contributing you will meet my son Jesse (Olds64). He is a big car enthusiast, loves those B and C bodies, and you couldn't get much bigger than the '74 models!
65olds98, I would say you got a good deal on your car. Would like to hear the back story some time.

1957 455 Engine Swap
Hi! I'm Kenzie, wife to Sean and Momma to Kelley. I work part time since the Hubby got out of the Marines last April. In November, he found me my 72 Old Cutlass that I instantly fell in love with. It has been my daily driver for almost a year and I think is finally about to die.
We have a 455 that he wants to throw in hopefully in the next couple of months.
Anything else, just ask away!!

My Name is Mark, originally from Grandview Texas. currently Active Duty in the USAF for 18 yrs. two more to go. In 1985 I owned a 1969 Cutlass S Holiday Coupe. loved her more than life itself, replaced everything under it, in it, and around it. She had a mighty .040 over 455 with a TH400 and 3:23 gears. drove/cruised/raced her for years. Totalled it thanks to someone running a stop sign. rolled another frame underneath her and slapped a nice front clip on her and drove her for more years. Got married joined the military and sold it. BIG mistake. Four years later, came back from Kadena Japan and had been looking for one since about two months ago (14 years later). I finally found a good condition Cutlass S again. Had to drive about 8 hrs to Alberquerqe to get it, but I now own my first car all over again. 350/350, bucket seats and console shift. currently underway is headers, 4 new coil springs, shocks, new set of Cragar SST's 10's on rear 8's up front wrapped in Cooper Cobra tires. Overhauled the not so shifty trans in the garage. Takes my breath away cruisin' it again. Nothing says luxury with a hot rod attitude like an Olds Cutlass Muscle Car!!

I'm Mike, a 3rd year Engineering student in New Brunswick, Canada. I got a 68 4 door cutlass for free this summer because the owner wanted it out of the year, been hooked ever since. Motor was seized, (stuck valves i later found out), but im rebuilding it in my spare time and with my student loan money. Dad's pretty excited about it as well, so hopefully between the 2 of us, and a few years we'll have a decent running machine
Kenzie, you will like the 455 in your car, lots of torque!
Mark, you have a really nice looking Cutlass there. I spent some time at Kadena on the far side with the Navy P3 squadron back in the seventies and again in the eighties, big base.
Mike, your '68 is going to give you lots of appreciation in the future. MOREDOORS!!!!

Just wanted to say hello. My name is Mike and I live in North Texas.
I'm starting a resto-mod on a 72 Cutlass Supreme with my nephew that we found at a swap meet. He has had the car for about 1.5 years, but we haven't made much progress, since I've been working on my 67 swb Chevy and his school and football schedule. His Mom says "fix it or get rid of it"
The story we got was the car had been parked beside a barn since 83 by the original owner because the engine wasn't running right. The guy we got it from purchased it 4 years previous and parked it inside his barn and never got to it. Said he was more of a Chevelle guy.
The car is original with no missing parts. We got all of the documentation and even got the promotional Oldsmobile 8-track tape.
We started with the brakes and suspension, the he decided he wanted to get it running first. It would turn over by hand , so we replaced all of the rotted rubber fuel lines, the fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. We put in a new battery and a little gas-n-oil and damned if it didn't start right up. Knocking rod and all. I hope we didn't hurt it too bad. I'm sure the journals were dry, but we only ran it about 10 seconds.
We plan to pull the engine this weekend and start getting it on the road soon.
I noticed there are a couple of guys from my area, so maybe we'll meet in the near future.

Mike, welcome! I think you did the right thing by rebuilding the brakes first. Make sure it stops before you make sure it goes. Since there was rod knock you are going to have to tear into the bottom of the engine anyway so running it for 10 seconds probably didn't hurt it much. Besides, the top end would have been what would be dry anyway. Usually when people do the bottom end they do the heads as well. Sounds like a good find and a nice project for your nephew and yourself. Go to it!
You mean to tell me she won't be driving your car when she is 16. 100 bucks says that unless its a race car you let her drive it.
On another note I bought the 48 hot rod and will fly back rent a truck he is has a U-Hall business and my wife and I will drive it back.
1957 Super88 with 455
1948 Fastback with ???

Pat, glad to hear about your new acquisition! Now I am not the only big-fender car owner
.
Jerry, Glad to have you here. I am familiar with you from ROP, and happy you decided to join us here. For some reason I had an image of you being slightly older and more crotchety (like me
).
