Long time car guy, though I bought my first Olds (actually two) last year. One is a ‘59 98 4-dr that has sat for awhile, needs interior redone and made road worthy. Bought it since the wife wanted a boat to cruise to the store and around town. I do restoration work, but may leave it the two-tone green paint as it is. I’m sure I’ll have questions once I get it in the shop and get going on it. My first would be how to open the trunk without the key, lol. Thought could crawl through after taking the back seat out.... nope. Hoping there gold bars in it.... or at least the hubcaps once I get it open.
The other is a ‘61 F85 4 dr that I’m using the drivetrain in a model A hot rod. Looks like I’ll need to get the torque damper rebuilt or buy the one from Fatsco. Anyone have any thoughts or experience? I’ve searched the forums but haven’t found much on the subject.
And of course I’m parting out the F85 if anyone needs parts. There was a guy from Sheridan Wyoming with a 2 dr F85 that wanted the spindles, one of his seized. So I was hoping he might be on here... who knows. I accidentally threw away his number like a dummy...
Welcome .
On the '59 , the trunk and the glovebox should use the same key .
Take the glovebox lock apart , and inside it on the lock cylinder there will be a four digit number stamped .
With this number Joe Padavano (on this forum ) will be able to make a new key for you for a few dollars .
A local locksmith may also do this , but Joe will probably be much cheaper if you don't mind the wait time .
This key should also fit the trunk . ( Unless someone changed the lock in the last 60 years . )
On the F-85 , Fatsco is about the only place that has dampers . And looking at their websight they only have them for full size cars ( Roto 10 ) .
Not for F-85's ( Roto 5 ) .You may want to call them and see if they can re-build a Roto 5 damper . If not , the only other choice would be a good used one .

Heres some pics of the ‘59, it’s certainly a project. When I picked it up the drivers window was down and the power window switch taken apart on the floor.... There is some rust in the floor and looks like some starting to show on the lower quarters. And the obvious crushed rear driver door and broken windshield. It came with wire wheels (w/ knock-offs), pulled them Offy get new tires. But hey it’s pretty complete and has miles of chrome
