Lost Trunk Key

I posted this earlier on the Newbie forum but now realize that was probably the wrong place. Am hoping this is more appropriate and I will go back and introduce myself on Newbie.

Anyway... on to my question and predicament if anyone can help out there!

My teenage son lost the trunk key for my '68 Cutlass Convertible. So much for letting him take it to Prom this year!

I've got the back seat out and am trying to figure out if there is some way to release the trunk lock from the inside. I've got a local locksmith who says they can make me a key if I can open and remove the lock cylinder.

Would an owner of a '68 (or so) Cutlass please consider taking a close look at your trunk lock and giving me any pointers on how (or if!) this can be done? Pictures would be awsome!

Thanks in advance for any help those of you out there listening can offer.

Just thinking out loud.... isn't the glovebox & trunk the same key? Could you take the glovebox lock to the locksmith?

You should be able to reach back with a 1/2 in socket on extensions and unbolt the bottom ot the latch part. I am not sure about that year but have done it on a lot of others.

Thats a great tip. I had forgotten this. The locksmith says sometimes the lock tumblers are actually different even though the same key is used. But hey... its worth a try. Will let you know if it works. Thanks!

Another great tip! I was wondering how feasible it would be to unscrew it. Sounds like you have seen it work so I'll give this a try if fitting to the glovebox lock doesn't work out. Thanks!
