Talking Greetings from Sweden

Hello, my name is Niklas and I live i Sweden.

New to this forum but not new in the car world

Just bought myself a 1981 Cutlass as my daily driver, unfortunately it has the 260 but it runs great so it will stay while I search for a replacement motor.
Found a Olds 350 Engine with a TH350 trans, could it be the easiest way to go?

Just for fun a list of all cars I owned

Volkwagen Golf GTi MK1 -1979
Volvo 142 -1972
Volvo 244 -1977
Volvo 244 -1988
Volvo 740 -1989
Volvo 960 -1997
Peugeot 205 -1990?
Cadillac Fleetwood -1977
Cadillac DeVilee -1989
Cadillac De Ville -1997
Chevrolet Caprice -1988
Chevrolet Tahoe -1999
Chevrolet Alero -1999 (Olds in the US)
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham Coupé -1979

The Cutlass Supreme had the 262 from Chevrolet in it.

Sorry for bad English.

//Niklas

Hey Hey. Welcome to the site. I have a niece here in NC from north of Umea. I was amazed at the number of classic muscle cars over there.

If your engine is the Olds 260, then, yes, the swap to a 350 would be very easy. Pretty much a bolt-in. You could probably even leave the trans in the car, and have less headaches- unless the 350 were rebuilt with greatly increased power, the car's existing trans should be fine for quite a while.

You may wish to look into changing rear end gears for a quick and not too expensive performance boost. The 442's of the era use 3.73:1 gears and an overdrive trans.

Your 260 is externally identical to the 350 Olds- no worries about brackets, pulleys, etc. - just use all the 260 parts on the 350. You can use either water pump as long as they are the same length and inlet nipple diameter. There would likely be some little things to alter such as the throttle cable / Trans cable connection since almost all 260's are 2-bbl whereas it sounds like you would be going for a bit more power therefore 4-bbl on the 350. The 260 may have small port welded sheetmetal exhaust manifolds, and you would want to use the 350 exhaust manifolds in any event, and have the exhaust reworked to accommodate. How strict are your emissions regulations- can you put any exhaust you want on??

What heads does the 350 have [large ID number on the corner of the head]??

Nice car. That era Olds has continued to be popular here too. Planning any modifications in the near future?

Already modifying it Nothing big but it does a lot to the interior, the window levers where two different kinds, so find some nice ones in chrome. pics of it will come.

New blue carpet in the trunk made a big different, the old one was black, or grey.

in the future it will be repainted, new rims, install electric windows, and of course a bigger engine

Chevrolet,Buick and Cadillac has always been the popular cars here in Sweden, but Oldsmobile have started to grow in popularity

Thanks for the info the car is so old so emissions isn't a problem.
When a car turns 30 they are classed as veterans and becomes Tax free.

Haven't seen the 350 engine with my own eyes yet so no ID on it yet, but its a complete engine with trans for 200 dollars
