Hello everybody,
I am new to oldsmobile... I just picked up a 66 cutlass 2 door holiday hardtop. I am the third owner, the first owner for 40yrs. and second for 15yrs. Being new I am trying my best to dig up as much information on Oldsmobile as possible before moving forward with any decisions on my new addition. My question is on the block casting number ( S81917 ) I have been able to find 381917 which would be a small block 330 but what is the S? I cannot seem to find this information.

 

I suspect the S is actually a 3, maybe a bad casting. Post a picture if your still not sure and someone here can give you a clear answer.

I’ve seen similar comments on other threads and thought no I see an S, I can’t be wrong. On second look under different lighting I can now see a 3. Thanks for the help. What a good first impression to the community, I’ve made. SMH 😂
