Block Casting Number

I have a 1965 Starfire with a 425 cu in v8 in it. The casting number I found on the Block is 888525, for some reason that doesn't seem right. Everything I find on subject indicates it should be 366525, amy help would be appreciated. I found this number above the water pump in and indented horizontal location.

Thanks,
Bob

I would suggest that you look more closely. Accumulated crud and casting irregularities can make a "3" or a "6" look like an "8". I think you will find that your 888552 really IS a 366525.

cstg no.

Joe,

Thanks for your help, I was thinking the same way but it sure looked like it started with 3 8's. Should it be preceeded by a letter.

If casting number is correct what size lifters does it have .091?

Thanks again,
Bob

The casting number should be followed by a larger letter "A". By the way, the casting number for a 1965 425 block should be 386525, not 366525. That block should have a 45 deg lifter bank angle and 0.842" lifter diameter.

Joe,

Took your advice and really cleaned the area good, finally i sa the true number 386525. Stll havn't sem the letter yet. Its a tough area to get into w/o removing alternator and power steering pump.

If thet are original heads what should the casting number be and where would I find it. I found this number 35976sor 5, not sure if thsi the correct number or not.

Thanks,
Bob

Original heads should have a large letter "A" next to the no. 1 and no. 8 spark plugs. Casting number is over the center two exhaust ports on each head and should be 383821.
