1979 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Regency

Hello everyone...

Introducing myself and my '79 Ninety Eight Regency to the Forum. My car is an original, 2,600 mile, showroom fresh, example of the car from its heyday. Incredibly lucky to have purchased it from the second owner.

My initial question is to inquire about what servicing should be done with such a low-mileage car. I assume fluids, belts, hoses. Thankfully, battery and tires were recently updated, so no issues there.
Second, the right rear door courtesy light is not working. The courtesy lights in the other three doors work fine. I need help and some guidance in how to remove the courtesy light cover so I can get at the bulb to replace it.

Any help is appreciated.

Beautiful, comfortable car with a nice ride, here's wishing many years of enjoyment. Preserve it well.

Welcome, beautiful Oldsmobile. Make sure you purchase a paper copy of the Chassis Service Manual and Factory Service Manual. Scanned electronic copies generally have poor resolution on the digrams.

Wow less than three thousand miles that's crazy. Wasn't even driven to church on Sundays. Enjoy your car and welcome to Classic Oldsmobile.

Rear door. Could it just be a bulb?

That's what I'm hoping. But, I do need some guidance on getting at the bulb to check.

If it's like most Oldsmobile door courtesy lamps, use a THIN flat blade screwdriver to pry the lens out and access the bulb.

The owner's manual will have the bulb specifications in it. Strongly recommend getting an original paper copy of the 1979 Oldsmobile factory Chassis Service Manual and the 1979 Fisher Body Manual. Those will show and tell how to service your Ninety Eight properly. Same books the Olds dealer mechanics used.

That's cool that it has an 8 track player. There are new & used 8 tracks for sale at a local used music/video games/movie store, Vintage Stock. Whether or not they'll play...
