Courtesy dome light

How do I test this with a multi-meter. Scenario: Car is on, headlights on, doors open and this does bulb does not come on with old or new bulb. Want to test and see if this thing is even wired. How do I do that with a multi-meter?

Take the lamp out, you should have 12v on one side measured with a volt meter and ground on the other with door open measured with an ohm meter. Door closed 12v on one side nothing on the other. The light works with 12v on it at all times, the door/s jamb switches and headlight switch provides the ground to turn the lights on and off. Does the headlight switch turn on the courtesy lights when rotated all the way ccw?

Also, you want to check voltage with a voltmeter, not an ohm meter. Since most everything is a multimeter today, it's the same instrument, just set to 12 VDC, as opposed to 1K Ohm.

Check the switches in the door jams.

They get corrosion on them, and don't work.

P.S. Try the simple things first - 12 volts and then a new bulb.
