New Engine, New Paint, New Interior...HERO camera Documented

No worries man, when I posted the pictures I didn't realize it was on page 4 either lol! I should've reiterated that I wasn't gonna post times. I just don't feel like it does the engine or car any justice. I really just wanted to see what it would run like it is...but now I know it's definitely time for an electric pump.

UPDATE:
So we figured out why we had a hung idle at the racetrack, the cheapo Mr. Gasket throttle cable I had broke at the GM plastic clip right at the bracket. It made the cable kink and wasn't allowing the secondaries to open all the way. I replaced it with a Lokar cable so hopefully next trip out we'll run better (with a new fuel system).

I noticed I had leaking rear wheel cylinders last week so I decided to change them. When I pulled everything apart I noticed the brake shoes were glazed over and the inside of the drums were rusting so I replaced it all. While I was at it I went on and replaced the MC...but, joesw31 talked me into converting it over to manual brakes. Since I was replacing the MC and rear WC's, I figured I MAW install a line lock so I don't ruin my newly replaced rear brakes.
New MC, brake lines, line lock, and proportioning valve:
In trying to keep the car looking stock (on the inside) I decided to hide the line lock switch under the ash tray door. My cigar lighter never gets used so I dismantled it and used the housing to secure the switch in the lighter bezel.
With the female housing on it, the switch can easily be removed and converted back.
And here's the finished product...
And that's the rest of the story...good day!

I installed the electric fuel pump a month ago, I am a little late in adding pictures. For now I have a 1/2" RobbMC pickup, Holley blue pump, and am using -6 pro-lite hose to the stock 3/8" steel fuel line. It runs completely different, we'll see what it does at the track next Friday. I would've tested it sooner but I've been waiting on new rocker arms.
You can see the bracket I made that mounts to the stock fuel tank mounting points. It is a 1/8" thick 1" aluminum angle bracket.
You can see the pump is just below the lowest point of the tank. It tucks up nicely in front of the tank, just behind the axle.

Nah, it's the angle that I took the picture at. You can hit that bolt with a 24" extension and a ratchet...I tried to think of everything when I made that bracket lol!

Sorry to leave you hanging...I haven't been able to get on for a while. The plenum cone is bolted to the center of the intake plenum floor. It is sealed with high temp fuel resistant rtv sealer to the floor. You can get them at Mondello's. I had mine installed at the same time the intake was ported at Nickens Brothers Racing Engines here in Houston.

Ok, fuel issue is officially sorted out. For those that follow this thread, when I ran the car in February it ran a 12.73 at 104 mph. I installed an electric pump, 1/2" pickup, and regulator to the DaVinci HP 950. At the track Friday, the car ran 12.11 at 112 mph...6 10ths quicker! Now, on to suspension and gear
Here are the video's from the track for those that don't get in the performance section much:
Royal Purple Raceway 25 May 2012 Oldsmobile Beatdown
Royal Purple Raceway 25 May 2012 In-car video - 12.11 @ 112 mph

Beautiful ride man! I've got to update my signature picture but I think there is a link to my gallery.
I see you have you temp/volt/pressure gauge cluster mounted under the factory radio. That's where I want to put mine but cannot find a place to send it through the firewall. Any suggestions?

What cluster did you get? I have the autogage cluster but I'm about to replace it with all Autometer Pro-Comp carbon fiber gauges.

Thanks! Hey Faz, I should be in San Antonio in the next couple weeks...we should all get together. I'd love to see your car! lol! Two weeks ago I met up with Tom and Danny when I went for an appointment. It was a good time.

I don't know what it'll run...I just finished the front suspension. I added Moroso trick springs and 90/10 shocks...however, after the last track outing where I ran a 12.11 we found a blown head gasket on the #8 cylinder so that was all fixed as well.
If I had to guess I think the car will run 11.80-11.90's right now with the fixed head gasket (and subsequent higher compression) and the trick springs. With a gear and rear suspension I think we could be in the 11.50 range conservatively...it has a 3.42 in it now so a 3.90 or 4.10 would really wake it up.
Thanks for the complements!

Haha! No thanks! 11.50's is quick enough for me...it's a street car, and I don't want to put a cage in it, not this one anyway. I'll eventually build an all out drag car but I'll find a different roller for that.

Re
With the times your running you have one HELL of a fast street car or a great running car on the track!
#141
Wow , I got a chance to go back and re-read some of the stuff I missed before ( I still got a lot more reading to do ) , and you have done a great job ! The car looks really nice , and I just love the color

Thank you guys! I really appreciate the kind words I need to finish the interior and get wheels and tires for it but it'll have to do for now. I'm trying to finish the hard parts (rear suspension etc.) before I put more money into the interior and such.
