HEI distributor firewall clearance issue.

Hi,

I am putting a 455 into my 68 Cutlass. I was wondering if anyone has tried to put a GM HEI style distributor in this application. I am concerned it might hit the firewall. Anyone try it? John

No problem with the firewall but some aftermarket intakes, I think the Torker is one, will have problems. I had an intake years ago that someone ground on to give the clearance needed. John

There is even a little interference with a stock distributor cap that has the dwell adjustment window on my torker. I presently have a aftermarket distributor that doesn't interfere, seems to work better.

The Edelbrock Performer doesn't have any issues accomodating an HEI ignition. You might have trouble fitting the stock air cleaner housing on it though.

I have one of each, performer and torker, both with GM HEIs no fitment problems. The OB4 intakes had issues when you ran a HEI. JKaz
