The decision was made!
Yup, had the Cutlass and the Plymouth for sale. The Plymouth sold so the Cutlass stays! My son has come back around, seems that the color was the only thing standing in the way of him driving the car to school. He thinks his peers will make fun of him, took him all summer to tell me that, go figure!
Sooooo, we stripped all the chrome and trim, off to the body shop it went. We decided to keep the pearl white roof and the cool old school hand painted pin stripes. The body will now be a nice dark blue metalic.
I introduced him Sunday to the miracle of soap, water, and steel wool to clean all the chrome trim and bumpers. Yesterday I spent 4 hours repainting all the logo's and scripts. We also decided to blackout the tail light housings and Oldsmobile trunk strip. Also realized I really am going blind, thank god for drug store spectacles!!
Purchase of 124000 mile Cutlass Holiday Coupe- $5000
Alot of repairs $4000
Complete custom interior $1500
Wheels and tires $1200
Stereo and speakers $120
Paint, new weatherstripping, and misc $1900
Total $13720
Spending mostly quality time with son! Priceless
Will follow up with more pic's!

Sorry it took so long to get some updated pic's after paint, but finally here they are!!!!! Also an update on the boy - he is not going to be a hotrodder!! His interest faded fast when he decided an older car is just too much work for him. Sooo I bought him a 2006 Mustang coupe and let him loose in it. Therefore dad regains custody of the Cutlass.
Now I need to decide what I'm going to do with the engine and drivetrain!!!

Well, OldCutlass, I think the son may have made a bad choice! That's OK, Dad now has a great Olds to go forward with, and decisions, decisions, decisions, as in motor/drive train/rear end/etc! Still, quality time with your son was worth it. I bet someday he looks back and cherishes that time, and regrets his choice of a Mustang.
New color, NICE!
I can relate on the kid thing. My 13 yo was excited to have a 1968 Dodge Dart GT for his 1st car (just like dad) not anymore.
All he wants now is a Toyota Supra.
Glad to see your keeping the Olds!

I can only imagine the public decimation of character that would ensue.
Not to hurt your feelings, but I wouldn't either. I can say that now that you've repainted it.

At least he was kind enough to spare your feelings all summer.
Car looks 100x better with the blue and white.
Great work, and I'm sure he'll drive it now.

It really was not pink, and had some awesome hand painted pinstripes on the body and roof. (I kept the pinstripes on the roof) By the way his high school colors are purple, white and gold.
We had it at some of the local car shows as we were working on it and most of his teachers and the kids he went to school with were in envy of the car!
As I mentioned in the first thread, the project did however, with the exception of the color thing, maintain an open line of communication between my son and I. If I had to do it all over again, I would have started when he was alot younger! That possibly would would have made a difference.
He does enjoy going to the car shows, but not the amount of effort and time it takes to actually build and maintain an old car.
Perhaps as he gets older he may want to do a project of his own. I'll gladly be there in the event that happens.
