Little update, I finally mounted my new chrome wheels from Speedway and some repro 670x15 tires from Coker. The Pro-Trac musclecar tires I got from Summitt looked horrible, almost like a balloon tire of sorts. I dont know if I got defective ones or that is just the way they are... and as I said one of the front stock wheels I had chromed was bent... So the next step is to get some plates, insurance and a registration and let the "fun?" begin!
Of course I'm just a little biased because I own a '67, but I just love the color and look of your car! The new wheels look great! I'm really happy for you that you have that gorgeous car back on the road and ready to enjoy the rest of the season.
Joe,
Turned out great!
Hope the "fun" includes the Fall DVOC Oldsmobile show in October Looking forwarded to seeing it in person!
Thanks to all for the comments! We need good weather and a fine running car to make the Fall show, time will tell on the 442 but the 67 wagon is a strong backup!
I did a short test drive on Monday in the 442. I had a concern about the rear as to if there would be a problem since I swapped a Posi unit into it. To my surprise it was smooth as silk! The trans and shifter worked smooth and the clutch had the lightest pedal effort I ever felt on an Olds. As said before it came with the car but I have no idea who the manufacturer was. I drove to the closest gas station for some premium and the attendant had a hard time filling the tank.. I did swap the tank during the buiild, (repro) and now notice the filler neck seems to be too far forward. Have to see if I can loosen the strap bolts and move it an inch or so rearward. When I went to restart the 442 after getting gas the starter turned slow and slight spark knock/kickback occurred. CRAP, good thing my kid was with me and we push started the car. Now I am pretty sure the battery needed more charging but will also check the timing, maybe its a bit too far advanced but when driving and accelerating no spark knock/ping could be heard. And the urge to mash the pedal and go through a couple of shifts did take over! We were impressed! Looking down at the temp gauge I saw it rose a bit after getting gas but quickly came down while driving, have to check more into this but for kicks I did just swap the radiator fan for a 5 blade non clutching unit reported to be off a 66 Toronado without AC. Now the most concerning thing I found is the steering had so much play in it I didnt want to drive any further. Checking today it seems both inner tie rods are severely worn so I just ordered a set of inner and outer ones. Once installed I will see what else is needed!
Joe - Sounds like a pretty productive shakedown cruise. Really happy for ya that she's back on the road and you didn't encounter anything that's gonna be a major PIA to straighten out. Always a joy for me to see another '67 roaming the blacktop again!
Had the 442 out a few times this year. With the hot weather during stop and go driving the temp gauge wants to climb. Not knowing how high it will go I swapped the radiator with another 3 row unit that I had recored. There was a slight improvement but still an issue. As soon as steady driving happens the temp comes down nicely. I dont really want to go the electric fan route so I will install a shroud and clutch fan and see. And the issue is apparently not enough air flow thru the radiator at slow speed/idle. Another issue is I need a return spring on the carb. Sometimes the idle seems a bit high when coming to a stop, lubed carb and throttle linkage but it still seems not to fully return to rest position. Lastly there is a vibration above 60 MPH, I havent had a chance to explore this yet, I have a couple of suspect things to check.

Joe - Glad you've been able to get the new '67 out a few times and start working some of the remaining kinks out. I've had mine out to 17 car events already this season and enjoying every minute of it. Sorry to hear about the cooling issue. The engine temp in my car also likes to start creeping up in +90° temps in stop and go traffic. It has a full shroud/flaps and 5 blade non-clutch fan set-up. The previous owner also installed a 14-inch electric pusher fan with a toggle on/off switch on the bottom of the dash. I'd prefer not to have the electric fan, but I'm sure glad I have it when I'm out in our extremely warm St, Louis summers. I haven't encountered a scenario yet where the pusher fan won't keep the temp below 210°, even when it's a 100° outside and I'm stopped. I'll say it again, I absolutely love what you did with that car! Best of luck ironing out the rest of the driveability issues. Please update us when you have time.
Finished up the install of the radiator fan shroud and the 6 blade clutch fan. Did not road test as of yet but am hopefull the stop and go driving will be with a cooler water temp...
Very nice work as always Joe, looks great! 👍 I hope it does the trick!
Many Thanks!
Early Spring I invested in a new battery because the starter would still turn slow and would not crank for long. At the same time I swapped the starter with an old Accel Ultra Torque full size unit. Man this job is always a fight with these cars.... but it took care of the hot start issue thankfully. I sometimes search Ebay for these old Accel starters. They turn up on occasion for Chevies. I simply change the nose to the B O P configuration and have not had an issue. In my case here I am sure the battery was the issue.
Many Thanks!

Joe - Thanks for the tip on the Accel Ultra Torque starters if I ever need one. I know mine has a full size on it right now, but I have never looked closely at it to see what kind. I replaced the battery in mine a couple years ago with a Walmart Everstart, 34N I believe with +800 CCA, and it turns it over well. I've never experienced a hot start issue with mine.
Have you had your car out yet with the new shroud and clutch fan to see how it's going to do? You could have planned a drive over here to St. Louis a couple days ago, it was 103°F actual temp, that would have given it a good test! LoL

Nothing yet there is a cruise night tomorrow that I hope to go to. Maybe showers though and it will be a bit cooler tomorrow.

Thanks. Please give us an update on how it does next time you have it out under high temp conditions. I hope the weather cooperates and you're able to get out to the Cruise tomorrow evening. I'm headed to a judged show about 50-miles NE of me at a VFW Post in Collinsville, IL. I always enjoy the judged shows that benefit Veteran causes.
Did not get a chance to put the shroud to a realtest, high temps and stop and go. Yesterday though there was a cruise night and I drove the car there with no issue. However on the return trip the shifter got jammed. There was no movement at all and i realized te trans was stuck in 2nd gear. It was a good thing I just got off the highway and was able to pull into a parking lot. When I looked under the car I saw the 1-2 shift rod was no longer attached to the trans. Fortunately I had a pair of channel lock pliers with me. I got it out of 2nd gear and just had to use 3 and 4 to get me home. There was a pin connector that had fallen out, wasnt hard to make a new one today and all is fine. So I figured I would look into the vibration issue I was having at speed. I raised the rear wheels off the ground and put the trans in 3rd gear. There was a noticeable wobble left rear axle so I am assuming its bent. I will be searching for another axle for my P type 8.2 rear. I am glad to have found this issue before too much head scratching.
Joe -.Sorry to hear about the shift rod issue but glad you were able to get it home safely without a tow. Also glad you found the probable cause of the vibration at speed. If the axle is truly bent I'd assume it could cause excessive wear to other components if it went that way for too long.
It could always be worse, ask me how I know? I was going to a Show about 4-weeks ago going 70mph on the highway when I heard a loud pop behind me, and the car jerked violently to my left. Luckily there was an exit ramp right in front of me. By the time I got to the bottom of the ramp smoke was rolling out of the rear driver's side fender well. Had it towed home and here's what I found. Catastrophic bearing failure. Damn thing literally blew up with no prior warning!
Note the inner most part of the Axle Retention Plate and how the NE quadrant was literally peeled away! I was able to pull the axle out of the tube without removing the retention plate. Lucky as hell the axle did not come out when I was on the highway.
I've got her back on the road now. Had to source an axle for my O-type. Both sides got new bearings, seals, and retention plates. Opened the rear differential to drain all the fluid and make sure no debris got in there and damaged anything. Everything looked fine. Did a brake job while it was tore down, it needed it. See, it can always be worse!

I read your thread when it happened and glad its back up and driving! In your thread is a response that states 12 bolt O axles and 8.2 P type are the same... Have to check this out. I do have some O axles! Anyway this rear was in an earlier project car that was used abused, raced and put away wet so anything is possible with it,

Sorry to regurgitate something you'd already read. I hope it's true that P and O-type axles are interchangeable and that you can salvage an axle from one of the O-types you already have. Good luck!
Axle repair update, a short test drive after repairs seem to indicate that the axle was bent. Gone is the feel of the brake pedal pushing up and down when my foot is planted firmly on it. Gone is the vibration it would seem at 55 + mph. But this job was a bit of a hassle for sure. I found all my axles were too rusty from basement storage of 30+ years, even the splines had pitting. I sourced an axle off ebay and installed a new sealed bearing on it. Then I removed the bad axle and found lubricated bearings and seal on the axle shaft. Ok my smartazz put together the wrong assembly! And even worce the bearing race was stuck in the axle housing. After trying different pullers with little movement I had to cut a piece out of the race to loosen it and remove. Next I had to source another axle that was designed for a lubricated bearing. With new bearing and seal installed on that it all went together well. Fingers crossed that things are right now.
All Olds show on Saturday which for me I would call the season closer here in NJ. My buddies could not make the show so it would have been a solo drive some 60 miles each way mostly Turnpike miles. I played it safe and rented a Uhaul. More around town driving and testing needs to be done for me to feel comfortable driving the 442 to this show. Well the weather was beautiful and the show a success. I am glad I made the trip!
I actually like those U haul haulers. I moved my 67 easily 4 years ago with one.
Yes they work quite well and will handle a 66 98 sedan as well, done that. Easy to use and have surge brakes so no trailer brake controller needed. And the price for 24 hour rental is just 54 dollars but I added additional insurance so the price went up to 75 dollars with tax. When I purchased the red track Pack car we hauled it back from Minnesota with a Uhaul.
