Darn, but definitely don't want to rush it. Will look for the W-31! I will be at the track at least later in the day on Wed.
Ok so we re getting closer, wind shield and back glass are in and also got all the interior complete. Still have a handful of things to do but should be driving in ab 3 weeks
Phenomenal job on that interior. Seems like that's one place a lot of cars always fall short with wrinkles, etc. Headliner looks perfect and the upholstery has the 'deep pleats' like the '68-'69 originals. Seems like every aftermarket seat covers leave the pleats looking 'flat'. Great job.
Every once in a while, I go back to the first post to remind me of what you started with and what a really short time ago it was. I suggest other do the same. It is amazing. Congrats on a fine job.
Thanks guys, I ordered everything from Legendary. A guy in our olds club is a retired tailor and he did the seats and Jasons Custom Trim in Valleycity put it all together.
Thank you guys, i appreciate everyone on this thread it’s been a lot of fun and im looking forward to my next build. I have a couple before and afters for you guys, good idea droldsmorland.
Nick,
I am a big fan of the SS1, SS2/3 and SS Cragars on 68-69 442s. SS1s make that silver car pop.
You could put SS Cragars on a 61 Valiant and it would 100% improve a car only a mother could love. Poverties just dont do it...for me.
Few cars look good to me with poverty caps... 68-69 Charger, Black 68-69 Buick GS, 69 RS Camaro, 70-71 Cuda....
I'm with you.
For those that didn't live back then, those "poverty caps" were called "the cheap hub caps". The dealers ordered the deluxe hub caps on cars for stock. The only cars that had the cheap hub caps were police cars, taxi's, and fleet salesman's cars. A VERY FEW people that ordered cars with cheap hubcaps were from two small groups.
The one group were the cheap Bast-rds. This group ordered base models without carpet, radio and very few if any options. They often ordered 6 cylinder engines because "V-8's burn to much gas". Ever see a new car cruising around with a transistor radio on the dash playing ?
The other group were the people who were going to change tires and wheels in a couple days. Most of these people went to bigger rear tires for traction. Also in the group were the "racer's". The hub caps came off to race and never went back on. You KNEW who the "Bad Azz" racer's were because the class and car number that was painted on windows with white shoe polish was visible. .
SSi's, SSII, SSlll and SSIV are classy upgrades to any Oldsmobile, including aftermarket wheels.

The dog dish look has been beat to death in the last few years. If the car came equipped that way then I'd run them. Otherwise hang them on your garage wall.
Beautiful car, great job on the resto. its a true testament to working one step at a time on a project!
And how many hit the trash! Mountains worth. Now they are $100 each on fleabay.
My first car, a 72 more dooor Biscayne, came with dog dishes. It was a fleet car. The 2BBL float adjustment was listed under taxi.
Those came off as soon as I brought it home and hit the trash. Replaced with a set of Rocket wheels. It was the coolest mordor on the block.
I have pics somewhere. Painted it wheels etc....that's what ya did way back in the Pleistocene era.
Nick, you need a spare set of Cragar SS's with black walls. I have a set for my 68 just need tires and correct deep-shouldered lug nuts.

I'm glad you all said it first! I always feel like a red headed stepchild any time I say the poverty cap thing is completely overplayed. I never understood it in the first place for all these reasons. Oh, well.
SSI's with those original style raised white letter tires simply cannot be beat. Completely changes (enhances) the look of that car. At least in my opinion!
