I’m taking the car to our vice president of of our olds chapters body shop, he s gonna let me use his paint booth and teach me how to paint. I’ll be with him every step of the way. He wants to be apart of the build and I’m willing to learn anything peo-le have to offer.
Got the trunk painted this weekend, I’ll do the splatter paint later. I have to lightly sand the body to get some over spray off and then just clean the car. I’ll mount it back on the frame this weekend then off to paint.
Thanks guys I appreciate the encouragement. Talked to my buddy Joe today and March 2nd is paint day, super excited can’t wait. I did get the body off the rotisserie tonight. I’m waiting on a few parts to finish up my chassis should be mounting the body on the frame on Sunday.
Today was paint day, took us 12hrs to tape off spray sealer along with 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear. Next Saturday we’ll paint and clear the stripes let me know what you think.
Thanks guys, I’m very proud of this car. I couldn’t have got to this point without the help of the Oldsmobile community. My brother James, Tim Murphy, Ron Memmer, my buddy Steve Puelo and Joe Streibel. Joe painted this car and would stop by the house to check on my progress and let me know if I was ready for the next step. And without Steve’s videos on YouTube of him rescuing Mr. Jones car I would have never tried this. Everyone should check out his videos the channel is called The Auto Refinery. Lots of stuff to learn from.
WOW!
Next to the black 31 you got your own museum.
I get first dibs on either car after...well all the other family members and friends...lol. Whats that make me # 27th in line.
Did anyone ever answer you on the # of trim clips and spacing on the rear glass?
Let me say that you, my friend, are doing an absolutely amazing job to say the least!!! Our own "Mr. Jones" doesn't stand a chance against this car.. I'd also like to add that ,you have been a more than generous when it comes to our project.....and all the while, in the midst of yours. Just great stuff. You're in a great spot now. Well played.

Wow this car has come such a loooooooonggg way. It's great when the paints done as it's such a big milestone and now you can start reassembly!
Assume you are going to finish the trunk stripe onto the quarter panels at some point?
The stripes do go onto the quarters, we just covered everything so the entire trunk could get 2 coats of clear. The stripe on the quarters got clear and blended in.
Well my brother James and I built the motor this past Saturday and plan on having it on the run stand this coming Saturday. I got the car home last week. If everything goes well I’ll paint the motor sometime next week and get it in the car. I’ve kinda set a goal to have it done for nationals this year but we ll see. Couple progress pics
Nice progress
Just a heads up in 69 they did not use that thermostat cover, they used the molded hose style of cover. What pistons and bearing clearances did you use?
Pistons are .097 over flat top DSS. The crank and rods were so nice they just got a quick recondition, polish, and standard bearings replaced, .015-.02

Thanks for the reply.
With a .097 over bore did you sonic check the block?

Correct neither did 68 but I'm switching to this style as I cannot find thick wall J tubes. This mod though not stock is the only defense against chineasium junk J hoses.
