Well we got the motor broke in today I can’t seem to figure out how to upload a video but everything went great and we had zero issues. Thank god for my big brother James he taught me a lot these last 2 weekends. Can’t wait to do it again

Quick update on my build, i got gas tank installed I’m almost done with everything attached to the fire wall. Motor is painted just waiting on cross member to come back from sand blast then motor and trans are going in. Taillights and quarter lights are in. Work on getting rear bumper on this week. My gas tank is NOS here’s a couple cool pics of the stenciles

69 Serv is means it’s a service tank. Factory installed tank wouldn’t have that stamp.

I figured that when I seen it on the tank. Still very cool find in a GM box, better than A repop. 95% of this car has NOS parts

Ok I got the trunk splatter paint done motor and trans stabbed in and the drip rail trim put on. I got the drip rail from Scott Winn, little sanding and buff and was good to go.

Does your rocker set up prevent you from running the factory notched valve covers?

Thanks Bernhardt, I actually had to switch out the Harlen Sharp rocker set up for a factory set up. Harlens were to tall and I didn’t want to put on tall valve covers and I didn’t want to put in a spacer so I switched them out. As far as the notched covers I’ve seen it with and without on big blocks but if you guys say they have to be notched I’ll put on a set of notched on. I want it to be as correct as possible.

I have only seen notched valve covers on the 69 400 G block, I would like to see what others have to say on the topic as well. I do think the non notched covers look better.

I pulled the original 400G out of my '69 about 11 years ago. I was about to say I was pretty sure it did NOT have notched covers but I just dug up some old photos and, sure enough, it has them. It's been on a stand in the corner of my garage and will stay there for the foreseeable future.

Nick,
You can use the stock covers with the Harland Sharp Rockers.
I did it on my motor.
Just have to modify the baffle a little bit but works out perfectly.

My 68 400 with AC has both notched covers. Both notches are toward the rear to clear the booster & AC box.
This car defines the phrase brought back from the dead.
Oh, and I'll be right over with a trailer to take the black car off your hands....lol

Not sure if you saw that thread a few months ago debating the relative performance of the '69 W-31 vs W-30 (as I recall, that started out as someone hating on the 400G and making the case a prepped W-31 was quicker on the street). Regardless, looks like you may be the guy who could end that debate once and for all!
Great job on this car. That black car is killer.

Talk about bringing one back from the edge, you have done and outstanding case sire. It is great to see. This old girl is going to bring home a trunk full of trophies. Job well done.

Got a few things done this past week or so. Gardner exhaust is in, notched valve covers are in, wheels and tires. I also have nos set of ss1s to get tires as well so she s got 2 sets of wheels to pick from.

Great progress!!! Any chance you could do me a favor? Please take a picture (or a few)- top view- of the exhaust tips and how far they stick out from the bumper? Maybe even a measurement? I feel the tips on my recently acquired 68 are WAY too far out... Thank you and fantastic work!

It’s been awhile since i posted, we have door and quarter glass in its wired up now. I used the harness from fusick it comes wrapped and cut to length. It was easier then i thought also got the fenders on and gaps set. We ll get hood and front end put on this week then the car goes to the interior shop on Thursday.

This weekend we got her all tuned up and happy, got the grill on headlight assembly and hood. Still have some adjustments to do on the hood, also got my seat recovered this week. Here’s some pics of her outside the garage today.
