This car looks amazing. I think all the guys on here are as excited as you are on getting this car done.

I live 2 hours away and I hope I get to see this ride this summer at some shows.

I am heading away for the week, (trying to make peace with the wife for all the money spent on the car), the car should all be done when I get back - can't wait!!!!

Here are a few pics for you sorry not much change, seats in and top up.
May have to get a new top now - don't tell the wife.

Look what the easter bunny brought me for the weekend.
Still a few things to finish but get to have it for the weekend.

Question - having a bit of a problem with the doors closing you really have to close them hard. I guess because of all the new rubbers etc. Any one deal with this?

Happy Easter

Looks sweet, It takes awhile for the new door gaskets to break in. Looks like you'll be done for spring cruising.

Looks gorgeous! I have the same problem with my '72 and the door seals...some brands are better than others. I learned that too late.

It's been about 10 yrs ago, but if I remember correctly, I got them through Year One....don't remember who the manufacturer was though. I have seen and heard that Metro makes excellent seals...

Wow........I just saw this thread from start to finish, and man, what a transformation!!!!!

I shouldn't but I'm going to now ask you the dreaded question......
How much did that full restoration bleed out of your wallet ???

As for the weatherstripping. I hope they didn't use OER crap.
That foam latex junk doesn't last, and it's more expensive then the BETTER Metro weatherstripping.
I have OER weather stripping on my 78 Camaro that's latex foam and after 3 years of being outdoors
it's all brittle and cracking and breaking apart like it's 50 years old.......straight garbage.

Thanks Eddie.

I knew someone would ask that question Aces.

By the time it is all said and done probably around $30K.
That includes all parts for exterior and interior, re chroming, rebuild of radio and speakers, new top, cleanup and detail of engine area, and all metal, body and paint work.
Still have some things to finish probably about another 2 days at the shop and then stripes??
The car turned out better then I anticipated so now (maybe next year), I may have to look at a 4 or 5 speed?
Will it ever stop???? LOL

All rubbers came from fusick and the quality seemed very good.

I was gonna ask about stripes, factory 442 (not W) would set it off nice!

Eddie that is Canadian but the dollars are very similair right now if fact I think yesterday the Canadian dollar went above the US.

Thanks Torsten I have been watching your progress and I wish I was as handy as you are - your work is really impressive.

I here you 69 I was not sure about the stripes and my body guy was a little leary, (to paint them), so I decided I would add later if I wanted.
Now I think I will as I agree with you. It's really begging for stripes isn't it.

The stripes are finally on.

I just want to say a big big thank you for all your help and encouragement.
Not sure it would have turned out this good with out your guidance.

I'm buying the beer at the Nationals.

A sincere thank you.

I've read a lot about this and have heard BOTH ways found on original cars. I have an original Olds brochure from '71 and the picture of an 'S' clearly shows unpainted louvers. Now we all know those Brochure marketing photos and paintings were not gospel but I thought I'd add my $.02

I think you are right Murphy as I do not believe mine were ever painted.
I had some pit problems and so I went the least expensive way, because they wanted $1000 to re chrome. I don't think I will ever be happy till they are re chromed??

Thanks for all the great comments.

Mine were either re-chromed when the car was repainted or they were never painted (no evidence of paint and/or stripping). So many different plants had slightly different procedures so I guess either way could be considered correct.
