Im not an expert on 442's yet, but i did notice that it didnt have the cutouts on the rear bumper for the "Dual Exhaust" as the 2 represents in 442. And the wing on the trunk, didnt that only come on the "Hurst Olds" ?Also It has the hurst equipped emblems on it.. didnt they only put those on the Hurst Olds ? Also the seats are white and the dash and carpet is black. Also the 442 on the front grill looks like it was painted over or something, its very faded. And lastly, the vin says 34267, which means oldsmobile cutlass supreme convertible. 34467 is 442 convertible... am i wrong to guess its not a 442.. ? lol

So far, so good... but there's much more wrong..Keep going..

I had a 72 convert that had white interior with black carpet and dash. My buddy has a 70 convert with the same so it's a normal combo. His console is black too.

A true muscle car that demands respect.
Funny statement.

Front bumper is bent.

To clarify the comment above, the rear wing did not come on the '72 Hurst Olds like it did on the 1969s, as it was never used on the notchback Supreme body nor on '70-72 convertibles. The mounting pedestals were designed for the steeper fastback lid, so they never sit at the proper angle. Also, all 70-72 cars with white or pearl seats/door panels always used black dash and carpet.

To continue the litany of problems, there are extraneous fender/decklid Hurst badges, '72 headlight bezels and taillights and stone shield emblem, the fat hood stripes were never used by Olds on non-OAI hoods, there's a sport mirror only on one side (sport mirrors would be on both sides), the 455 is painted gold, the air cleaner snorkel is on the wrong side, the SSIIIs are later vintage with snap on center caps, the seat covers are not factory correct, the plastic seat backs and skirts are missing the chrome trim piping, it had some big GM stickers in the door jambs. Those wrinkly door and rear side panels are not originals or from Legendary. They look like Hefty trash bags. All the chrome trim was removed from the dash, the Dual Gate has a chrome ball on it instead of the correct black. UGH. What a cheap-o "restoration".

I don't know anything about 442s. So is that car actually a Cutlass that someone put 442 badges on? If so then maybe somebody should call his bluff. Especially if he is selling it as an authentic 442.

Good! There are some real experts out there. I already emailed them on the issues and asked that they not "tarnish" their reputation selling it as a 442... To add, the car has 72 grilles, taillights and headlight bezels (as mentioned). It also has a TH350 transmission (judging from the pan) probably has a 10 bolt rear with no sway bar and small front sway bar...Missing the trumpets.. I don't believe the 442 badge spacing is correct either.. and it has cherry bombs to boot!

Someone is bidding pretty high though.. I hope they do their homework..

I'm wrong about the grilles, they are 71... not 72 like I initially thought.

wow lol, and i thought i was cool for catching the VIN and realizing it was a cutlass supreme, you guys are amazing. i applaud your abilitys and hope one day ill be that good with oldsmobiles : ) however, ill probably be shot for saying this here, if you showed me this exact same scenario, but use a ford mustang or something, ill be able to pick that apart down to the last bolt. But thats ancient history, im an Olds man now : )

We all have our strengths and weaknesses. I was Rustang guy once too.. Mine were 65 FB, 71CP, 72FB, 78T_TOP, 92 Convert... I was knowledgeable then, but I've been a 442/GTO guy for many years but am still learning about Mopars/Chevelles/Grand Nationals too... Don't limit yourself..

Regardless of whether or not it is a real 442, I have to say that it is a nice car. I just hope someone doesn't get scammed.

WOW... I don't believe it! Anyone who is willing to pay that amount would/should do their homework first.. I wonder if it's one of his boys trying to drive the price up.......

Fake 442

I just sent him a friendly query about whether it was a real 442 or a conversion. It will be interesting to get his reply.
