I have spent hundreds of hours documenting 1970 W-cars to come up with what I believe is an accurate representation of how these cars would have looked new at the dealership.
I'd like to dispute the one point above! GM / Oldsmobile never built one this perfect for placement in a dealer showroom!
In 1972, I used to ride in one exactly like this except a 4 speed and I'll never forget that awesome piece of machinery.
Congrats Jimmy! Very well done and well deserved award(s).

You have a real work of art there! Just awesome!

Found a video of the winners from the 2021 Geneva Concours on YouTube and wanted to share this with the group. I love the colors and reflection in this picture. The car just sits right, too.

Finally getting caught up in all the build threads I’ve missed this trip was incredible and (albeit late) congratulations on the well deserved honors and accolades you and your car have received.
it is truly an over the top restoration absolutely speechless on the level of detail , strive for absolute correctness , and quest to return this car back to the day she left the dealer ! It’s a time machine to transport us all back in time.
Just found this thread. Beautiful work and great details, thank you! What materials did you use when detailing the contacts in the fuse block?
Thanks for the compliment. Not sure how I missed your question so apologies on the late reply. With regards to the contacts, I picked up small triangular sanding sticks from Hobby Lobby. They're gritty on the outside and small enough to get in to the tight areas within the fuse block. I used compressed air as well. https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Ho...4aAhfnEALw_wcB

Things are coming together at the new shop. I added a lift to stack the cars a few weeks back so had to pull the cover off the car. She fired right up after being put to rest for the winter right after MCACN.
When time allows, I want to get the XT wheels and repop Polyglas back on the car for the summer.
Just getting back to Chicago after an enjoyable week in Nashville, Tennessee for the 2022 OCA Nationals. It was hot! It was humid! And there was a LOT of rain! But, it was also a great show and great week.
We opted to stay offsite at the ******* Grand Ole Opry resort with the water park so I didn’t get to spend too much time at the show. It rained on Wednesday when we arrived so I left the car inside the trailer and didn’t take it out until Friday morning before judging. Once the judging wrapped, rain was heading our way so back in the trailer the car went.
Great cars again this year! I was in the senior class for 70-72 performance this year after winning BOC last year in the junior class. Fortunately, the car took home another Best of Class as a senior. I feel very blessed and fortunate to be able to participate in events like these and quite pleased with the outcome.
Thanks again to all the volunteers for putting on such a great event for me and my family. The trip to the Opry on Friday was a lot of fun.
Nice weather Friday morning but damn was it hot!
Senior class judging. The inside of the car was quite HOT with the windows rolled up!
1,287.7 miles round trip with the trailer and finally back at the garage and unloaded. Great week with the entire family and glad my Dad was able to tag along for the trip with us!

A few weekends ago my family made the trip 90 miles north to Pewaukee for the Olds Quad States Meet. For those not familiar with the Quad States event, it’s a joint show between the Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota Olds clubs. They use the ancient OCA judging sheet as their rubric for scoring the cars.
The car came out Saturday morning and did quite well being awarded the BOC for seniors. This year the event grouped all the past senior winners, regardless of the class they won senior in, and put the cars head to head.
The event was nice. The live music was outstanding on Friday night.
My daughter wanted her picture in front of the car before we left.
I didn't think this day would ever come but today I said farewell to the W-31. A private collection made an unsolicited offer on the car that was too good to resist so I've moved the 31 on to her next caretaker. The collection features top muscle car from Hemi's to Yenko's and everything in between, and I'll have an opportunity to view the car when I'm out that way.
It's certainly a bittersweet moment, however, it was the right decision for my family. I cannot disclose the collection, nor will I disclose the price it took to get it away from me, but it's safe to say that numbers matching W-31's have quite the ceiling.
I did manage to get the car out on the road a bit and she is an absolute animal! Let's just say those Polyglas tires never stood a chance...

Your car deserves to be amongst the other elite muscle cars in the new caretaker's collection. Kudos for making the tough decision to put family first.
Who knows, it may come back to you in the future. I'm glad I was able to see it at the nationals.
The greatest thanks goes to you for detailing so incredibly much from start to finish, and leaving a legacy of restoration that will continue to inspire and guide others like me as we start and continue our own projects. It's one thing to undertake a project such as this, but sharing so many of the intricate details. problems, and successes really influences and supports our unique community. So many questions were answered, so many conflicts were resolved, and I'm sure there are some mysteries twisted in there as well, but to the end and extent that we all benefited from your experience. Thank you!!!
Good for you Jimmy. I’m sure both buyer and seller are happy with that car. Ditto what was said above. Thank you for the information in your thread which provided me inspiration on my 1970 build to pay attention to details and shoot for a high level restoration. Maybe not quite this cars level!
Jimmy, congrats on the sale and thanks for providing the restoration details and info here. I suspect I know of the collection that you say purchased the car. It's on to the next one, I guess!
Hey Jimmy,
I am sure that was a bittersweet day. Hard to part with something you have so much time and effort into (and cash of course). It was a fantastic build. Answered a lot of questions for a lot of guys and created a few as well. Can't wait till the next one is done!
Jim
Jim, congratulations, wonderful project and thanks for letting us watch it. I watched it all the way thru. I see the A D Pelunis plate frame went with it. Did the sales slip from the closing store go with it. Thanks for the education.
