1970 442 rally pack gauges. will the tac hook up to an msd coil without burning it up?

It will work on some, you just need to give it a try and verify accuracy.

Does this MSD coil hook up like the stock one? If so, no problem.

Its usually not the coil itself that throws it off, its the multispark system itself.

Did not work on mine, either hooked up direct to the coil or to the MSD Tach out wire on the MSD Box. I need to get the signal adapter from MSD as I suspect you will also.
Like Oldcutlass said it is the MSD signal is too much for the old tach.

So once again we see the importance of asking the right question.

What is an "MSD coil"? Is the OP simply talking about an aftermarket coil with a stock distributor, or is this a complete MSD ignition system? If the latter, which one?

One option, of course, is to read the instructions. If the OP is actually talking about an MSD 6 box, it has a dedicated TACH output, as shown in the wiring diagram. If the OP is talking about a different MSD system, it's impossible to provide a useful response without specifics. The mind reading thing still isn't working.

See page two of these instructions:

Joe, I love your comment. 100% agree. I also wish people thought thru the use of the title of their question. Like "need help with Olds". Just a rant from a person tired of clicking thru to questions that really have no immediate answer.

I agree. Had to do this with my 69 W-30 car. The 68 I have now has an MSD Billet in it so no muss, no fuss.
