Oil pan bolt -what?

Anyone ever see this style of oil pan plug/cap? How the hell do I get it out of there? One surprise after the next here on this 394!

Thanks!

Looks like a multi spline fitting to me. I've only seen them in metric sizes though.

Luch,

Standard plug for those cars. Have heard there is a special tool but have never used one. The square drive end of a 1/2" ratchet by itself (no socket) or a short 1/2" inch extension on a ratchet will work like a charm.

Better hope the distributor doesn't turn when you turn the drain plug

Here's a thread from a few years ago discussing this. The old thread also has details on the specialty tool. But if you don't have one Sugar Bear is right, a 1/2 inch ratchet will do the job. John

A tool was made to fit this drain plug, but as noted, a 1/2" ratchet works just fin.

Everyone here is really a big help, the 1/2 inch ratchet did the trick! I am guessing the previous owner never figured that out...and prior to that who even knows the last oil change! The filter I removed just looks like an old one to me. Could be a generic Jiffy Lube style for all I know but it just has an old sort of writing to it that I have never seen. Whenever that was hanged I bet is the age of the old oil!
Either way it's done and I am off to some cruising around...been running great since the full tune up!
Chris
