vent lines

hi i have a 1967 cutlass supreme. The gas tank has 2 vent lines that come off the left rear of the tank. Gas comes out these lines, i tried to hook hoses to them and run it around the tank to a piece that has both lines connect to it but its open at the top and gas just comes out of it, does anyone have any suggestions on where i should start.thanks aron

There is a replacement tant vent kit through OPG, yearone, etc...

This is the one from yearone:

You will just have to pick up some fuel line.

There are 2 lines that run from your fuel tank to the white piece. The white piece is held in place by a bendable bracket above the license plate, behind the bumper. What probably happened is the lines are dry rotted and need replaced. Just take a piece of each line to the local parts store and have them match it up.

You need that plastic surge piece mentioned above and mounted up above the tank, least I did on my 69. Sometimes a little "burp" in the vent spits out gas unless ithe surge valve is in place to let it go back down the other line. I got creative and ran an extra line out of it to filler neck so I can cap the vent when garaged and reduce fumes. Keeps wife happier and I put a reminder on the dash to remove before driving.

Is your gas cap vented or non-vented, you need to use the non vented cap with this setup! Mine does not have the plastic piece on the end. I used a looped piece of metal tubing clamped into the end of the hoses, with a non vented cap, however my tank will build some residual pressure. Not enough to harm anything!

I have a '66 442 with the Fuscik 1966/1967 replacement tank. It has the two vent lines coming out of the driver-side rear of the tank. One is crimped, and one connects it to the Vent Hoop in the trunk that was used in '66. This with an unvented cap. With this setup, theoretically, I should not build up tank pressure but unfortunately on hot days I do build up pressure, enough so that the car starts to stall. As soona s I relieve the pressure by removing the cap, it runs fine.

I am going to try a vented cap to see of that helps but I'm at a loss as to why the venting system is not working. I'm beginning to suspect that the replacement tank is not plumbed properly such that the pickups are below the fuel line as opposed to above. Unfortunately there is no way to tell short of cutting into the tank.

I'm curious as to whether or not others have had this experience with the reproduction tank offered by Fuscik.

Thank you

I've found that plastic piece on 1969's and 70's where it clips to the underside of the floorpan between the fuel tank and rear end (called a surge tank?). Two or three years ago I purchased a 1967 4 door with 47,000 original miles on it, and all the paperwork going back to the purchase of it new. It doesn't have the white plastic surge tank, but the two hoses are clipped just behind the license plate, above to the left of the gas cap. They both had some kind of foam inserted into the hoses. Do you have the hoses up high, or do they sag lower than the top of the gas tank? I've been using this car as a daily driver and had no problem with gas leaking or splashing out of the vent hoses.
