Hello all
Looking for imput
Im working on a 66 442 with E block 400 rebuilt with edelbrock performer intake edelbrock aluminum heads and holley 850
My overall motor height is too tall for my hood to close
Ive looked into a lower profile intake but the performer seems to be the only aftermarket dual plane intake available for my motor and the available single plane intakes are all taller
All of the holley carbs are the same height
Im using what i was told are the correct motor mounts
I have a small gap between oil pan and cross member so I started looking in to different motor mounts
Everyone says I have the 1 and only ones for my motor but when i called Anchor which is the manufacturer and talked to tech support
they told me the ones I have are for 70-72 455 and they never made ones for 66 and 67 E block
and that as far as they know no one makes them
Im hoping someone out there has run into this problem also
I dont know if there are motor mounts out there that will help or not
I really dont want to have to use the stock intake or quadrajet and really dont want to cut or modify my hood
Does anyone have any info or advice?
Thank you
Karl
ASSUMING that you have the OEM frame pads for a 1966 442, the ONLY motor mounts that are dimensionally correct are Anchor 2261 or equivalent. There is ZERO uncertainty about this. Do not assume that Anchor's application list is correct. There should be about 3/4" clearance between the crossmember and an OEM oil pan with these mounts.
I have about 3/4” clearance between the pan and crossmember now with the 2328 mounts
I hoped changing to the 2261s would lower the motor because my overall height is too high
Tech support at Anchor told me 2328 mounts are actually for 70-72 455
If they both leave same clearance what is the difference between them?
Should i bother changing them?
My aftermarket intake and carb sit much higher
than original parts
Thanks
Karl
2328s will NOT have the same clearance on the original frame pads, so again I note that 2261s are only correct with the OEM pads. And as an example of why I don't trust Anchor's application info, 2328s are correct for all 1969-72 Olds A-body big blocks in cars with the OEM frame pads. The photo below shows that when the mounts and frame pads match, the crank centerline is in EXACTLY the same place relative to the crossmember. Also, you have to force the 2328s to fit the early frame pads, so if they just bolted in, I question which ones you have. Note the second photo that shows the differences in the bolt hole location on the frame pads.

That's a great illustration Joe. Should be helpful to him.

What I find really interesting is that the 2328s wrap under the oil pan rail, whereas the 2261s are completely outboard of the rail. That suggests that using 2328s and matching frame pads on an SBO might free up room for headers.
A friend had a 66 cutlass, we swapped a 455 and had no hood clearance issues. A typical 14x3 filter fit. Over the years, he had a Performer and Torker on the engine.
He did run solid engine mounts, I think he bought them from Rocket Racing.
