Headlight switch from dash removal ?
#5
The **** is supposed to stay on the shaft
Do you not have at least a Chilton manual?
what year?
for '68 and similar:
disco battery
pull out **** all the way
find button on side of switch way up back there. On metal side opposite wires.
Press button
pull ****/shaft all the way out of the hole
...[I see why that is censored now]
Now the bezel or escucheon is a nut that holds the switch in. Best way w/o muffing it up, if real tool is not available [naughty again]... use your fingers [oy vey] on the nut... wiggle the switch cw and anti-cw from the back meanwhile, and it should gradually unscrew.
Mind you I did have ONE unit where the button trick failed. Aftermarket POS switch, would NOT let go. I thought it was going to break the dash I was pulling so hard. Had to cut the shaft off. I put a real GM switch back in.

I agree with this. much easier if you take the gauge out. That is what I did. also its a pain in the rear trying to get the shaft back in.
