Was the limited slip tag id put on before or after painting the rear axle.

I have upgraded to a posi carrier and want to put on the metal id tag. Do I leave it bare, or paint it? Does it matter which bolt it is attached to?

I cant help to think a factory worker just slapped a tag on a bolt in a different place(after putting hundreds of tags on) and when the car made its way down the inspector might of saw it but figured ''ahh its almost break time and said, its just a tag''
