Factory Style Mufflers
Factory Style Mufflers
Looking to replace my flowmaster mufflers with a factory look and sound, without purchasing the entire system. The flowmasters are too loud.
Any ideas on the current available mufflers to fit my 2"" pipes?
I could possibly live with a small increase in sound, but don't want to end up with a drone sound while driving.
Of course performance is somewhat important.
Thanks For your help.

For the mathematically-challenged, you can also simply measure the inside-to-inside distance between the legs of the U-bolts on the muffler clamps. For that matter, the size is usually stamped on the sheet metal part of the clamp.
The stock exhaust would have 2.25" head pipes and 2" tail pipes. I strongly suggest Walker Dynomax turbo mufflers. Get the 21" long ones if you want a quieter exhaust.

Knowing that you have great expertise, I may dig a little deeper on the muffler choice;
Since you recommend 21" for quieter, what would be the choice for just a little more sound?
My engine is a 455, with some mild mods.

I run the 14" Dynomax on my 442s. I've got the 21" on my Delta 88. Authoritative sound, no drone.
So I finally got my car on a lift at the exhaust shop.
Here's what I have 2" headpipes, Flowmaster 50 Series mufflers, 2' Tail pipes.
Pipes look ok, but again, I'm not a fan of these mufflers, and they are rusting. Pipes can be re-used.
They will put Dynomax Super turbos in my system OK. Says they are 14'. (should have got the part number.)
The fellow at the shop would like to custom bend headpipes, (With H-Pipe), as he says" your left side has about 5 bends and the right side has about 3 bends too many".
I'm kind of back to square one on this.
The 455:
30 over.
Rochester.
Ported heads.
Engle 20/22 cam.
Stock W-30 aluminum intake.
Stock exhaust manifolds.
I don't run it hard and rarely race it.
Recommendations?
Thank You for helping me on this.
I have almost the same engine set up.
Went with a 2.5" mandrel bent system and the long case Super Turbo mufflers.
Has a great tone, no drone, and is loud enough to get attention.
Perfect set up for me.
PS - my engine dyno'ed at 420 HP.

That is good info.

Thanks to all who replied on this post.
The super turbo mufflers sound awesome.
I really like the sound way better than the Flowmasters.
Did not replace pipes, just mufflers, the headpipes are 2 1/4.
I may replace with 2.5 next time.
Again, thanks to the forum!
