Exhaust Manifold flapper

I have a very squeaky flapper assembly that is driving me insane on the drivers side exhaust manifold. This thing is noisy.
Any reason that I shouldn't just wire it open which I assume would be with the spring under tension, that is with the counterweight pushed all the way down?
Car is a 68 cutlass Supreme with a 350 and is not in a cold climate.
TIA
Mark

If it's not in a cold climate, it's probably not needed. I believe I just released the spring and it keeps itself open with the weight in the down position.

I've wired the heat riser open or cut them out completely.

The valve on the exhaust manifold of my 64 98 was rusted 1/2 way shut so I removed it.

In the old days, they actually made a special hi-temp spray just for that. I've got a can of BP stuff in my garage can collection.
