Convertible Carpeting vs. Hardtop Carpeting?

Are the floor pans the same? I have factory hardtop carpeting I trace on to the new carpet to ensure the cuts are correct. I am constrained by time so I don't have he ability to take the OEM carpet and fit it in to the car and would prefer to just lay it over the new carpet, make my cuts, and lay the new carpet in. If they're not the same between the convertible and hardtops, where is the difference?

When I purchased a ACC plush pile kit for my '72 ragtop there was no distinction between hardtop and convertible noted - all were listed as either 2dr or 4dr with further indexing for console or non-console

So I'd venture that's all that would matter, as I'd presume the floor itself should be the same inclusively between hardtop and convertible.

I simply laid the new carpet out on the floor and carefully trimmed it along the rockers and front/rear panel edges as needed - was pretty easy and I'd only ever done my own full carpet swap on one other car before. Using the original carpet as your guide is a good barometer - I laid out painter's tape along the edges of the new carpet that I was trimming so that once laying in the car it was easier to line it up and avoid over-trimming where needed.

Call Legendary & ask your question they sell both. They’ll know if the pattern is identical. Wouldn’t hurt to mention year & model.

The floor pans being the same is the detail I needed. I have a very specific way of doing carpeting so the cuts mimic the factory cuts in every single way.

I think the point was that you should check with the vendor.

Yes. Legendary sells ACC carpeting. It is drop-shipped from ACC.

There is no difference in the floor pan or carpet.

If I wanted to call the vendor, I wouldn’t have made this post.

Your choice of course, but it seems simpler to me.

Let's be honest. Most vendors are clueless about Oldsmobile parts. Just try to order motor mounts or a water pump.

How about we double-down on honest. I’m happy you stated “most vendors”. I suggest Legendary does not fit into the category of most vendors. They are highly reputable, will painstakingly address the needs/questions of both prospective buyers and their customers. Their customer service is excellent. RA certainly does fit into the most vendors category, as do others.

Legendary uses ACC carpet.

Just to prove a point, I called ACC. They didn't know--which is the response I expected them to give hence why I didn't call them in the first place.

Did you actually READ “any” of the previous posts?!?

The brilliance here astounds me.

Well, at least now you've ruled that out.

And this has been my experience with vendors as well. I frankly don't waste my time calling, since even if they DO have the answer, the clueless person you talk to on the help line will not be able to get the answer.

I stated to call Legendary. Point #1. I stated ACC drop-ships for Legendary. Point #2. The OP elected to call ACC. The OP elected to repeat what I had already stated - ACC drop-ships for Legendary. The OP elected to call ACC not Legendary. The OP has already proven my point(s).

Try calling RA for “ANYTHING”.

ACC manufactures the carpet. Why call a middleman?

This is now what, the third time y'all have stated what I originally stated in Post #6. If I felt ACC was the "go-to" vendor to call, I would have suggested to call ACC. I suggested to call Legendary. I'll do my best to answer your question.
Legendary workers (IMO) have more 1st hand experience with the actual installation of the products they sell. It was my intent to make this clear by (1) suggesting to call Legendary & (2) provide feedback regarding their exemplary knowledge & customer service for the products they sell. Their workers have years of experience performing the actual installations of the products they sell. Albeit, I more or less attempted to refute the notion of "most vendors"..."are clueless about Oldsmobile parts..." - hoping to suggest Legendary and their customer support team do have the experience in answering/addressing questions regarding fitment. No sweat off my brow if no one wants to call them.

When someone asks me which lumber (wood) products are best to purchase I think I'll start suggesting they call Champion, Weyerhauser, Georgia Pacific, West Fraser, etc. ad noxious infinitum.
Perhaps we should all call Champion spark plugs, NGK, etc. the next time we need spark plugs? Why bother calling the middle man - go directly to the source.

I'm done.

I would absolutely go directly to Legendary for questions about their upholstery products. I'll remain skeptical as to their knowledge of products they don't manufacture.

You got your answer in post #7. The rest has just been entertainment.

So for whatever it's worth this late in fray - the ACC plush pile (which was their 'luxury' option above standard loop offerings), was literally a drop in replacement - I set it out in the sun for about 4-5 hours prior to install and it took about an hour to finish trim the set. The hump section was really well formed and sat snugly against the center flooring - I've seen others which were literally oversized in their proportions and had to be additionally padded underneath to take up the space.

So ACC would get my vote for quality of fit.
