I am restoring a 1966 oldsmobile cutlass. the rag joint tore on it so I am in the process of putting a new one on. I pulled the column and shaft then realized the shaft bearing the goes into the column is busted so I need to replace that as well. My question is does anyone know where I can purchase a new or used and intact bearing? Also wondering how and if I need to get the shaft out of the column to replace it?
thank you for the links. I'll check them out. Do you know if I take the steering shaft out at the bottom of the column after removing the nut on the steering wheel?
Yes, the shaft comes out the bottom, nothing but the wheel holds it in. There is an upper bearing, and there may be another nut under the wheel you would need to remove. My memory isn't that good, but it easily comes out, I have done it.

I appreciate the responses! I'll order that part from NPD and see how it goes. its super affordable so not really losing much if it don't work.
I got the same problem on a steering column I bought from someone. I am going in the morning to NAPA or a hardware store and taking the shaft with me and if I am able to find the right size I will contact you. I have a tap and die set but my biggest die is not big enough.
