Painted rally wheel black

It was a beautiful day today so I decided to paint one of rally wheels black. I'm pretty sure I'm going to paint the other three!

Try red before you settle on black I think you will like it.

Black or red both pop better than the argent.

Red, black,or argent. Can't go wrong. Stay away from the silver/greys of the later snap on cap versions.

Having a problem with the paint scratching off easily on the wheels. I'm pressure wash them and use degreaser to clean them before I painted I'm very surprised at how easily the black is scratching off. Any suggestions before I paint the other three? I used Rust-Oleum Auto enamel gloss black. Is there a better paint that I should be using? Should I be prepping the wheel differently. I really don't want to take the tires off the rims... but if I have to I guess I will. Thanks

Are you sanding them first? You need to scuff up the paint that's already on there, then prep / wipe with mineral spirits. THEN paint. That's likely why you're not getting good adhesion. Also, the paint needs to cure at a temperature that will allow it to properly set up and dry. If you're doing this in cold weather, then your paint isn't curing. I discovered that temps in my basement last spring weren't good enough for a few underhood components to cure properly, so I had to bring them upstairs.

In any paint job big or small, most of the work is in the preparation. Paint them the color you like best. It is your car.

Found a set of SS IV's and painted them argent. Put them on my 75 Delta 88 Convertible and absolutely love them. Personal choice on the color due to it being your car. Also be careful saying Rally Wheels on here. Some old timers get their panties in a bunch about the proper terminology.

This reminds me of when I was 16, had a 65 Cutlass. Went down to local pawn shop and bought a pair of orange SSII wheels for cheap- like 20 bucks. Brought they home and my Dad had a fit. "you gonna put orange wheels on your car???" No I'm gonna paint them. He thought I was crazy. I painted them black, took them to "quality farm and Fleet, and had cheap F78x14 nylon tires put on them. (They had a terrible time getting them to expand enough to go on those 7" wheels) Anyway then Dad looked at the wheels & tires on car and said " you did a good job, Gregory." Wow! Anyway my 65 was maroon and looked good with black SSII's on the front. Ok your question, I think body color is best especially with red, but I like black better than silver. Nice Car!!
