What sheen of black should be used on the black paint around the chrome spokes? Can anyone post a picture of a restored wheel. Thanks

 

I think I heard it was Argent grey.

 

Argent was for ssii's. the ssi's were black between the chrome spokes. Thanks
Ssiii's were body color.

 

I used Seymour's GM chassis black for the SSI wheels on my '68 and '69. It's not quite a semi-gloss but fairly shiny. It was as close as I could find to what the wheels looked like originally.

The 70 to 72 SS1 wheels were painted with two different shades of black. The portion under the trim ring is one color, and the portion between the spokes is another shade.

 

Interesting. I did not know that.

 

I'll post a picture of my unrestored SS1 wheel. Up to this point, I have not been able to duplicate the portion between the spokes.

 

I have some 69s that are original paint that I will use as is, maybe paint the back. I can photo if needed.

 

Clearly not applicable to the 1971 chrome lip version that does not utilize a trim ring.

 

That would depend on what shade of black was used on the all chrome wheel for 1971. Maybe a person has an unrestored 71 wheel to compare them. Further, there were limited production of the all chrome wheel for 71

 

Could it be that the paint under the trim ring isn't faded & the paint in the spoke area is?

 

Here is a picture of my original spare from my F85 W31 that has never had a trim ring, and has never been mounted. Hopefully, this picture will help other members.
