Aluminum Intake with OAI

As purchased my car has an Edelbrock Performer with a 750 street demon installed. The OAI was modified to (kind of) work with this set up but I hate it. I do have a stock cast iron intake with a brand new Quadrajet that also came with the car. While I want to go back to a more correct Quadrajet I do like the look of an aluminum intake but can't afford a stock W-30 intake. What are you guys with aluminum intakes using to keep the carb lower for the OAI to look and function correctly? I would be more than willing to trade this intake and carb for just an intake if someone were interested.

Thank you Scrappie, I'll do some research. Hopefully that isn't some rare intake made of unobtanium like a lot of stuff I'm discovering these days.

The only option I know of to fit your Performer to the OAI hood requires ditching the Olds adapter. You would buy a 1970 Chevelle Cowl-Induction adapter, put it on your existing air cleaner base, and use a W31 foam ring instead of the Chevelle foam.

You would have cold air 100% of the time--the function but not the exact look. And the cost to do this is <$100, so you could consider it a good temporary fix until you get a lower intake.

p.s. There are reproduction W30 intakes out there for less money.

This worked for me , inspite of what some - ok one resident expert might say . One other car ( 70 442 ) local has the same set up . Looks pretty doggone stock under the hood which was my goal . No Chinese intake for me & has hei distributor .

I don't see any pic of what worked for you.

That is what I have with a factory OAI set up.

There are 2 versions of the O4B: Q jet and Holley.

They are not that hard to find.

HEI will NOT fit.

Thanks for all of the information guys. One thing I'm still not clear about; can an HEI be used with the 04B intake? At this point I think I'll have the stock intake cleaned and install it with the new Quadrajet. I just want original as I'm not into dealing with hot rod stuff anymore. Might even just detail the car and move it along.

Factory U code with Saddle buckets, dual gate and rally pak, posi and added OAI hood before I got it. Super solid and rust free car, other than the panel behind the window, which I do have and will be installed in the coming months.

No. A GM style HEI with the large cap will not work with a 04B. A pertronix style conversion to the standard distributor would be fine. Or just run points like I do.
