Does your Olds have window tint?

So, does your Olds have window tint? How dark is the tint and what color is it? Are you breaking the law with your tint? Have you ever been pulled over because of your tint? Provide some pics.

My 96 98 has failing window tint done by a professional. It's not very dark and I'd like to have darker blackout tint put on. Maybe I should remove the old stuff and have a pro do it the right way.

My 71 98 doesn't have window tint.

Tint is 35% professionally installed.

Was told/heard maybe 25 years ago or so that 35% was legal.... Never inquired further, have never been pulled over or ticketed for tint, knock on wood !

My cars have factory tinted windows. I am not a fan of aftermarket window tint, it bubbles, scratches and peels, its not about if its about when.

Jesse, I don't recommend darker than 35% Which you can see by my posted pic above is still see through. Darker than that to the point were its almost impossible to see through from the outside, can make it difficult to park especially at night among other things.

As far as putting tint on cars goes, as long as no legal issues I say go for it. Its a win, win, win. Protects interior, keeps the car that much cooler, and makes every single vehicle look that much better IMHO. But again I preface the tint visibility should be within reason.

I believe my color is smoke, its the only color I recommend. Always professionally installed at a shop no shade tree. Unless you know beyond a shadow of doubt that he or she is consummate professional. ( homemade tint jobs often bubble and that for me is worse than no tint at all )

Both my everyday drivers have Tint, don't know what the darkness level is in both cases it was not factory tint it was dealer installed already on the vehicles when I purchased them my wifes car a 2008 Pontiac Torrent the tint still perfect no bubbles cracks or peels (and her veh sits in the drive to make room in the garage for the Olds and it endures 117 degree heat) so far.
The Jeep is a 2016 and so far so good no cracks , bubbles or peels, don't know if it's a testament to the quality of the tint or the installer but so far so good.
Sorry you asked if my Olds has tint , I'm trying to keep it looking stock and tint on a 56 Olds is not appealing to me, if it were a resto-mod I may change my mind. there was a guy at the Cruise in last week with a black 81 442 it had dark tint all the way around and looked great !!

Here's an update. So, I removed the light tint from the driver's side and passenger's side windows and had new tint installed. Here are before and after pics from yesterday.

It's Ranyo S7 tint at 15%. The owner of the tint shop said the tint on the car originally was probably close to 65-75%. I had the tint shop remove the old tint from the rear window because of the rear window defroster.

The folks at Quality Window Tint did such a good job that momma wants to get one of their techs to tint a bathroom window in our home.

I've had 3M Crystalline CR70 (CR90 on the windshield) on my VC for 8 years.

I have it solely for heat reduction inside the car. What sold me was 3M's claim that the CR70 rejects more infra-red and heat than their darkest limousine tint. And I have virtually no reduction in visibility at night.

Even driving in mid 100s, the A/C doesn't need to be on high to be comfortable. It's amazing to put your hand from sun to shade and not feel much heat difference. That's a nice feature when your car doesn't have individual driver/passenger temperature adjustment.

Even with the factory tint in the roof glass on the Vista I can really feel the heat from the sun coming in, I dont know how people drove these cars without a/c in a hot climate.

I tinted them glass in my car probably 25 years ago. The door glass was looking pretty bad, the rear window glass is still in excellent condition. I replaced the door/quarter glass with factory tint. I like it much better.

this is not true. My uncle has a truck that has had window tint since early 80s no bubbling, peeling or scratches. If it’s done right it will last

There was a thread on here in early 2018 when I bought the car. It looked good when I bought it but was almost undrivable, the brakes barely worked and pulled very hard to each side when they did work. I couldnt drive over 50mph or it would overheat terribly. The rear shocks had leaked all the fluid out. There were 2 carb adapters stacked so it bogged so bad I couldnt press on the pedal or it would die. Almost all those were pretty easy fixes except the brakes, I added disks to the front. The hardest part was finding the correct pulleys and brackets so I could add a/c, I bought several parts that didnt work, finally one of the moderators here sold me the correct parts (thanks again John). Then I drove the car from TN to California on RT66, on the way home from that trip the rear wheel bearings fell apart so I had to tow it home. I search for months for the correct wheel bearings but I never did find them, I finally swapped a 66 Chevelle rear into the car. Since then I have driven 20thousand miles and have really enjoyed the car.
That pretty much sums up the trials and tribulations on this car. Without the help of friends and people on this forum I may never have made the car into the nice driver that it is now.

Nice post. Thanks for all the great information. Glad to read that you drive and enjoy your car as much as you do.

When I bought my 66 Sport Wagon it also had a fuel issue. Same as you. Plates stacked up. The original owner's never figured it out. I traced it back to where the fuel lines go into the frame at the tank. The fuel inlet hose was at too hard of an angle and too small of a hole in the frame for both of them. Fuel inlet was pinched from the day the car was built. I replaced that hose and have been good since.

PS: Is the 66 Chevelle wagon someone you know? Cool wagons to see together. My Sporty is also white with a black interior. Fit right in.

The 66 Chevelle wagon belongs to a good friend, we drove from TN to California together along with another friend with a 67 Chevelle wagon.

For the latest restoration on my 71 Olds 442....I purchased the grey tinted glass package from Auto City Classic. I had used the green tinted glass in some of my other restorations. The grey adds a new touch and matches the color theme of the car I think. Good luck with your choices....
