330 HEI conversion
330 HEI conversion
I will soon be replacing the 307 in my 1986 Buick Regal with a 330. Would like to convert it to HEI. Thought about leaving the points on it. But I won' have a resistance wire in the Buick. What are the easiest and best options for this ?
You can use a ballast resistor in place of the resistance wire.

An Hei is also an easy drop in.

Or, you can just replace the points distributor with any Oldsmobile HEI distributor. I ASSUME you are no longer using the CCC system, correct? If so, be sure to get an HEI distributor with a vacuum advance can. The ones without vac advance only work with CCC.
As Joe said, an old GM dizzy is the hot ticket. Summit distributors are entirely Chinese these days. I recommend disassembling and soldering each connection. It is not uncommon for these cheapos to have poor crimps resulting in sporadic no-start. These also have issues with mechanical advance stops and sometimes the coil only fits chinese caps.
