Decided to take some pic's of the typically important engine, trans rear end numbers
today. Just beside where the distributor shaft insets into the rear center area of the engine, I noticed the numeral 3 and what I assume is the corresponding julian numerals 276. Do these numbers combine to show the year and day of manufacture for the engine block (my car is a 70-442)? Thx in advance

I would say no. In my experience, the Olds engine blocks, heads, water pump, and so forth, only have up to 3 julian date numbers to show what day of the year the piece was manufactured. In the case of *276* for your '70 4-4-2, that would be the 276th day of 1969 that the block was manufactured.

I doubt it. Most likely it indicates Oldsmobile division (3) The blocks and intakes were investment cast from sand molds, so i doubt it would be the mold number either.
