Found my next project

Took it out for some 102 octane. Overheated due to radiator leak. Towed home. I predict a Four Core Radiator in my future.

Installed a Retro Sound radio (minus speakers) and swapped the flex-fan for a clutch fan.

Put a high efficiency 3 core rad in the car & forget about it. This will out cool the 4 core rad.

Put in new heater hoses and heater valve. Used assembly manual to straighten up wires and hoses under the hood.

no competition on this. I will put in my new 4 core rad and report the results. The goal here is to help Olds owners enjoy their rides with little issues. What ever the results we will know shortly. Hope this helps others. Some say 4 core no good, others good. My car is stock except for mild porting of the heads, 268 cam, W-30intake and pistons that are less that 10:1. Hope it works to stop my overheating when A/C is on. I have trouble believing that these cars overheated w/Ac on from factory.

radiator

Twenty years ago I put a 4 core in my 72 cutlass. it has always taken care of me. on a 90 degree day it never gets above 200. I run two electric fans . when I have to do it again it will be a 4 core again.

I changed my oil, washed 40 year old grime off motor which of course left me at the car was taking distr cap off trying to dry it out for 30 min so I could get her home. O well, I also ordered upper ball joints , already have lowers ; all moog , also moog standard springs , I'm thinking with these new Polly bushings and all she should ride pretty good at least till I do the rear. Got her up on stands in the shop ready to take apart. Wish me luch as I know these control arm bushing are goin to kick my butt

So today I detailed the carb and I went to install the new fuel lines I got from Fusick. I have never been disappointed with them until today . the fuel lines are no where close to being right. I guess I will call them and see what they will do.

Took her to a local show last night put on my the local Chevy Club and placed in the top 10. Got $20 instead of a plaque. The weather was surprisingly cool and we had a good time. The old gal is doing pretty good. She has been to 4 shows and always placed or received an award. The show was not very well attended but I was the only Olds there. There was a Javalin next to me and he was the only AMC there for sure.

66 Cutlass Midnight Rider

Guys:
I just popped for all new hard fuel and brake lines for the 66 from Inline Tube, I will keep you posted on the results and service I get from them. I upped the fuel line to 3/8" to help feed the Big Block under the hood, that should supply enough Turbo Blue fuel hopefully!
Thanks Ron

It's usually covered too.. But I had just taken the carb off and took the pic before I covered it back up. Getting it ready to sell soon. Thinking of selling that and the 442 and getting a 70 Cuda..

I was surprised to find that the chrome part of the armrests in my car are interchangeable between right/left, so I swapped them out and flipped them over since the chrome was wearing off. Now they look good as new!

I am in the process of re-doing my entire Dash. On my old dash had the stock gauges in which the Seatbelt Warning Buzzer was built into one of the gauges. I am about to install new Ralley Gauge Pack. My questions are do I need the below listed Buzzer? I don't know if I currently have the Buzzer built into one of the new gauges? As you can see, I have the seatbelt warning light on top of the restored dash which I did not have before.

Any clarification would help,

Thanks, Pat

New 455

Firing up the new 455 this afternoon. Fingers crossed.
This was a ground up 455 build. I Swapped out a 350 in my '72 Cutlass.
I did most of the assembly myself.
Credit to StickW31 for general guidence and machining contractor.
Cutlassefi for Cam and valve train parts .
Cutlassfreak for inspiration to do home porting. I'm excited but almost sad this part is coming to an end. Like Macadoo, "Having a blast".
Wish me luck.[/IMG]

Guys:
I posted that I would give you an update of service and quality of hard lines from Inline Tube. I placed my order w/ Jake after he worked me thru options for my 66 Cutlass, the order showed up 2 days later, well packaged and no issues in shipping. The lines were about 90% perfect as far as fit goes, some minor tweaking, but nothing major. The brake lines had the correct spring type protection and fuel line had the correct tar like tubing where it went thru the frame sections. The biggest PITA was feeding the 1 pc fuel line though, but I figured that if they did it back in 1966, I could do it in 2014, took approx an hour for the fuel line, but it all looks Very Clean and Nice, really complements all the rest of the work we have done on the rolling chassis. I would recommend them based on MY experience, yours may be different though.
Thanks Ron

I sanded tons of bondo from my right rear quater panel. It had 3 layers of paint. Most of the bondo was put over paint, I dont think anyone ever took it down to metal. I can see It has been damaged at least twice and the rt quater is almost 1/2 inch low, with irrepairable damage down low in the bumper cove/very end of fender. The rest is fairly wavy. I have never seen so much bondo at least 1/4 inch thick. It must have been rearended or someone backed into something HARD! Maybe more than once. Im not sure how to raise the level of the back of the fender. The top was built up with bondo too to meet the trunk lid. I can piece in the end and taillight housing from a parts car but im wondering if i should try to find a good quater and go that route. I must say who ever did this repair did a pretty good job, I never suspected this, no cracks in the bondo, It didnt look to bad. Maybe i should have left it on..LOL

My 65 had 3/4 to 1 inch of glass and bondo from a rear end hit and I had a spot on my door that was 1 inch as well

Harbor freight has a spot weld dent puller, http://www.harborfreight.com/stud-we...kit-98357.html , It is good or those hard to reach areas that you cant easy get a hammer. This is similar to the dent puller that the pros use. I should help you pull those dents out to a more reasonable working piece.

With the new 4 core insert installed on my tanks (from the three core) as well as putting in missing side and bottom radiator seals and adding some WWetter additive, I get better cooling while cruising but the temp gauge still gets about three quarters of the way up the gauge while sitting with A/C on. My gauge has four marks 1/4 1/2 3/4 4/4. With 4/4 being the highest temp the gauge reaches 3/4 while sitting at idle for 5 +- minutes with the A/C on. While cruising it stays around 1/4.

Up till 3am cleaning, buffing, scraping old crap from firewall. Used my Dremel buffer inside the cowl duct, Also had the heater box on the bench opened it up just to let 1972 out. Now I can do my thing. Hopefully that counts as today cause I was with my buddy Corona the whole time & got nothing left to give till tomorrow.

Replaced the blinker switch on the OE tilt column I installed a couple weeks back. Everything works like it was Day 1 off the Assy Line. Took her out for a short spin and got tons of thumbs up just around the neighborhood.
