Vapor blast
Jesse, the name is a misnomer. It's sandblasting with water and air as the flow medium. The water cushions the impact of the grit, which can be adjusted to give a more lustrous finish--depending on the metal being blasted.
Some European countries prohibited sand blasting, so it got its start there. It's more popular with the motorcycle crowd, so that may be why you've not heard of it.

Had it done locally, $60 an hour. Cost depends on how long it takes to get part a uniform finish. The machine is roughly $13,000. I've heard regular sand blasters can be converted for about $2k, but there's a learning curve to get the correct finish. Not feasible for me since I only need a few parts.

I knew about kits like this but I've read that they don't work too well. FWIW, I think $60 for finishing your intake is a fair price. Did you spray it with clear coat before installing it?
